If you bought it brand new in November you're probably boned

Once my Pandora battery arrived in the mail, hacking my PSP took maybe 20 minutes, and only because I messed up the magic memory stick part (I hit N instead of Y for a dos prompt). There's no danger of bricking with the Pandora method, that was apparently only an issue for older methods which exploited a glitch in Liberty City Stories or something.

Try using the guide on this link and you should be able to find out what model/production number your slim is to narrow down if it's hackable.

Alright, I'm having a bit of trouble trying to gets popsloader running on 5.00 M33-4 From what I hear, its completely doable, but so far everything I've tried has not worked.

And I've gotten PSX2PSP to work for me on Multidiscs. (An achievement for myself).

Can anyone help, or will I have to downgrade?

POPS Loader 5.00 with all PRXs is available here: http://www.hfc-essentials.net/gameex.../POPS_PRXs.rar
(credits to Adultery for the pack)
NOTE: there is one file with a wrong name (I think it is pafmini3.90prx, that should be named pafmini390.prx). Everything else in the pack is ok.

Should be put into ms:/seplugins/popsloader, pops.txt should include ms0:/seplugins/popsloader.prx 1 in it, and lastly also make sure it's also enabled. (The 1/0 in the end of the line is new, and I assume it's an on/off switch so this last step probably isn't necessary)

edit: the actual popsloader plugin can be found on dark alex's site, see here for a link at bottom of post (notice you need m33-2+) http://www.dark-alex.org/forum/viewt...hp?f=44&t=1847

Okay, I've really, really fallen out of the PSP hacking community. My firmware is still down at like 3.90 M33.

I'll give internets, cookies, and a hug to anyone who can whip up a dumbass' guide to going from 3.90 > 5.xx M33 since the update notes make it seem like I can only jump from 3.90 to 5.xx anything, and I can't quite make out the order based on what's still on the website. :<

If you're using CFW, can't you just do the system update that's selectable in the psp menu?
I think it's hacked so that it'll download the CFW upgrades.

I did that to my 3.xx m33 a month ago. I'll try it again tonite ;X

Honestly, I was scared to since what I'd read online made me think I can't just jump from 3.90 to 5.xx. I'll turn off WPA2 on my router and give it a try later.

I don't remember the exact version mine was, but I did a jump from the 3.7-3.9 to the 5.xx's and worked like always.

So with the talk of hacking a bricking in this thread, i guess it would be a good place to ask a question of my own.

My friend recently wanted to play FF Crisiscore on my PSP and he had to do some firmware update to the PSP and durning the middle of it, it stopped and shut off. Now the PSP doesn't even turn on. Is there a way to unbrick it from it's current state? It's a PSP-2001 btw.

    Thanks in advance.

It wanted to update mid way through the game? Was the game on the UMD or memory stick?

Julian, I tried that and I still can't get popsloader to work properly.

I'm able to activate it, but when I hold the right trigger and boot up Final Fantasy 8, it won't show me the popsloader menu.

This is how popfolder looks inside. (Ignore the astericks. Was trying to show something else but decided to change how I'd write it out. Too lazy to edit them out.)

Edit: Also pops390.prx was originally pops.390prx.

    Spoiler: show

And then the SEPLUGINS folder looks like this.

    pops.txt

poploader.txt has the following written inside.

    ms0:/seplugins/popsloader.prx 1

From what i gather, your PSP is not hacked. So will need a pandora battery or send it to sony to unbrick it (which they might just upgrade you to the unhackle mobo anyways). get a pandora battery, the memory stick you can create it with windows.

Correct, my PSP was not hacked. When he put the game in (UMD) it wanted to update the firmware to be able to play the game i guess. He was updating the firmware and the PSP shut off.

Would you happen to know of a site that has a guild for unbricking a PSP? Thanks so much for the responces :D I'd like to be able to use my PSP again!

if your PSP's flashing was interrupted and you didn't hack the firmware (thus installing the recovery console) your PSP is in a completely non bootable state from my understanding. the only 2 options available to you at this point would be to ship it off to sony to be reflashed or replaced (and considering you have a fat if i read correctly, i'd hang on to that veeeeeeery closely and not give sony the chance to swap it for a new, crappier model) or, get a pandora battery and re-flash your firmware that way. if you get the pandora, you can flash your firmware to a hacked version at the same time and get yourself a capability upgrade. i'd go with the second option.

My PSP is the silver skinny one. The one that came in the box set with Daxter and a family guy movie. Can i still get a pandora batter and reflash my firmware with this model?

Most signs point to the Daxter Slim being hackable. But you need a Tool battery or a modded Phat battery to do it.

Hm, are you on the newest version of the 5.0 m33 firmware? I remember reading that it only worked on 5.0 m33-2 or higher or something. I'm on -3 atm and it works perfect for me.

Have you tried loading a new psx game you never played before? The popsloader menu should show up by default when loading a new game.
