I've heard some terrible excuses in the last year in a half with college students in regards to dropping out/why they had bad SAT scores/failing classes but this is one of the most pathetic excuses I've heard.

So what's installed with the machine by default? Let's see. Firefox, OpenOffice, Thunderbird, and GIMP are on. Quite a lot of games, as well. Here is a full list of software installed on this machine, as seen by the command dpkg -l The package selection is reasonable. Libraries for C development aren't installed, and emacs wasn't installed. Those were easily installed through apt-get. One could just as easily run synaptic and get packages.

Linux is very easy to use, I mean you can use is as a live CD which requires you to not erase your beloved Windows and best of all *gasp, all the Distros are free!

You obviously over estimate my understanding of the words that you are typing. And while I could easily google stuff and get a better understanding of what you actually said, right now I'm feeling incredibly lazy and am enjoying my blissful ignorance of life as I kill time at work.

Plus one of the only reasons I even bother with a Com is to play FFXI, and from my understanding, you need windows to run it regardless.

Though the advice is appriciated.

Actually, WINE is still trying to take a crack at getting FFXI up and running. FFXI is pretty much the only reason why my PC at home is still an XP box.
