    Nightmare Uragnites

Is there some trick to killing these quickly?

We farm these whenever we get buburimu win, and while we can clear them, it takes a lot longer than any of the other mob families to do. The going into the shell is really annoying, and the poison AoE spam really kills our healers' MP. We've been debating just clearing half of them and moving on so we have more time for the other accessories, but Valor Capes are one of our most needed pieces so I'd rather not do that if there's a quick trick to these.

    How do you do them?

You clear Nightmare Urganites by skipping them and killing Nightmare Efts and Dynamis - Valkurm instead.

Weapons are squishy. Just spam stuns and don't let your mages be tards and get caught in aoe range.

This. Weapons are very squishy. Hardest part is clean pulling but after doing it a few times its not bad at all.

We only do a few Urgs, because we have only seen 1 PLD cape ever. I was under the impression you had a better shot at getting a cape off them, so yeah we do a few.

Given the crappy drop rate they seem to have off efts, wouldn't surprise me if they did.

Haven't done uragnites in forever, but I think I remember Regen III helping a lot. A Barwatera + Barpoisonra combo might help as well.

We do farm these every bubu just due to the damned fact we killed everything else, and the pld list is a decently sized list in our ls. There's not usually that much time left (read: 15-20 minutes after torching the crawlers with napalm) but there is no trick to beat these quickly or less painfully. They are just asses once they are in their shells, and never want to come out. Plus, they love their poison moves, so it's large stretch on our mages, even for just 15 to 20 minutes of fighting.

Conclusion? better mobs to fight but if these are all that are you really have left to farm, farm em, but be careful.

Antidote macro. Make sure everyone has one.

More seriously, I've been thinking about taking a ride out to the island to beat on some snails with a low level weapon so I can get a better grip on exactly the stupid things work. I wonder how hard it would be to convince my entire LS to go out there with onion daggers to practice....

    These really aren't that bad..

Decent number of BLMs help, but also instruct your DD to hold TP until they come out of the shell. It might not be that pleasant, but Valor Cape is a good drop.

    Scorpions are much worse.

One party of BLMs (BLM/WHM x5, COR/WHM) and a THF/WHM working on the Nightmare Uragnites for the entire run while the other parties/alliances progress through the normal farming route. Coordinate casting series IV so that the spells land at the same time, and then most damage isn't wasted by the uragnite retreating into its shell. Sleep the uragnite, wait for it to come back out, and repeat until dead. You can even Aspir them while they're in their shell without triggering Gas/Venom Shell (you just can't do any damage).

If you take a bunch of melee to fight Nightmare Uragnites, you're wasting a lot of MP/medicines/damage from the constant Venom/Gas Shell spam. It's easy to get a big link if you're not pulling them properly, and having to hold lots of them at once can ruin your positioning advantage if you're using the cliff, as the mages eventually take hate.

I'd take Nightmare Scorpions--even with their linking and practically zone-wide Stun from Earthbreaker--over Uragnites anyday. After you handle the first three links, you can easily let Poison from Venom Storm sit until you're done with each pull, and Poison from Breath/Sting are just as easily removed on the few people they hit. Having to deal with Poison, Plague, and Gravity all at once, however, can wreck your alliances quickly.
