Then I remind people -- though not so much as to be annoying -- of run times, and I encourage them, and I'm there to run the events... and then one or two people don't show, and nothing happens. I literally did this two nights a week for several months, and the vast majority of the time, we'd be left with four or five people with nothing to do. We'd wait, and wait, and nothing.

That's what I tried, too (in regards to Salvage). Also tried recruiting from the shell I do Dynamis with. Alas, no go. Always four or five people, no sixth, no one willing to come help us at least get in for farming. Pretty crummy.

As aforementioned, I'm really not bored of the game itself, just bored of not being able to do anything. I actually enjoy the very vast majority of endgame events. Like, a lot. I want to do Salvage so freaking bad.

I might try that. The only thing I worry about is them being worried about me ninja lotting stuff, which I'd never do because I'm not an idiot, but people are paranoid and protective. Wopa let me do stuff with him before (like kill Cerberus) -- I don't steal from people or mess with them. And you know what? I can run to Byakko without getting aggro, this is amazing on Pandemonium if you can do this. You are like, a God. (I know you're on Pandemonium too, I just couldn't resist saying that, though.)

I may be bold in my suggestion, but I really think you just need to quit. You shouldnt rack your brain this hard on deciding on whether to stay or not...just leave. You'll never recapture the glory days of old, and even if you level every other job to 75 you will just be in the same rut time after time. Its delaying the inevitable disappointment...how long until you are just as bored and frustrated? Another couple months? Save yourself the dozens of dollars per month and move on to something else that entertains you.

Just quit while you still have positive memories of the game. Honestly, if your friends are your friends then you can stay in contact irl outside of the game. Just get out now and start fresh elsewhere.

I remember him talking about how his father grounded him because he found out he spent over 1,100 dollars during the Christmas blowout of what? 2004-'05? That kid was pathetic, he was geared nicely and should have been considering how much gil be purchased lol. He used to follow me around and sit in the Goldsmithing guild and beg me for gil when I would be skilling up and synthing. I eventually left and went to Mhura guild :3

A lot of people go through ruts in FFXI, points in which they just don't feel like doing shit in game at all. To you, I suggest casually leveling a new job (on your own), and maybe trying to get started on assaults or something that doesn't require much time. Give yourself some personal goals, like obtaining things from some of the newer content which doesn't require large numbers of people, or getting xxx amount of exp on a new job. Chances are you'll meet new people who are really cool, and maybe find yourself in a good linkshell or at least with some new friends who can help you get enthusiastic about doing shit in game.

Back when Kara was young, and I was the best translator he had (for its half Japanese roster), he'd say some shit all right. He'd call them slanty-eyed, use the R instead of the L in commands he'd yell at them, and so on, so forth.

The former JP treasurer, Naonya, still plays. I talk to her every now and then. She congratulated me when she /checked me and saw I had a wedding ring on. Was always a real nice person. Her English is pretty good too.

Shit, how the hell didn't I think of Charitwo? It's pretty damn hilarious how he's the "big shit" now on FFXIclopedia, but everyone hated him back in the day (and pretty much every OG Pandemoniumite still does). He can get away with it because Pandemonium wasn't and has never been hot shit, so most people don't know or care as to what's gone on in that server. So now he gets to rock out on the FFXIclopedia forums (because they are so much cooler than the BG he's banned from and the kiddie pool at Alla) with awesome people like Genome.

Pandemonium still has plenty of tools, they're just not nearly as famous. You really don't see the /shouting, or the popcorn-worthy drama on Alla's Pandemonium forums (which pretty much just have a handful of people posting there, as you know), or any of that shit. Well, nowadays it's a lot more muted I guess because -- and this is what partially inspired this whole thread -- a lot of the good people, like you, have already jumped shit. So when almost everyone is a tool...

Pandemonium is your favorite if you've never known better or are happy with the basics. Honestly, it can be pretty chill if you just wanna travel around as a BST or a DNC. You'll fight for camps sometimes, but some other spot is probably open. ToAU camps are usually taken, but not always, unlike a lot of other servers. CoP stuff is always free. You can do your AF and stuff without competing for chests half the time. Really, for old school simple FFXI stuff, Pandemonium can be pretty relaxed.

Never really see anyone /shouting for interesting missions and such in Whitegate though, not often anyways.

If I get into a shell and it breaks, yeah, I'll get disappointed again. But as aforementioned, I actually do like endgame. I do like playing FFXI. I think Salvage, sea, sky, all that business -- I think it's all fun. Normally, I ignore the drama, play my role properly, and have a good time because I really enjoy the events. The problem is that it's practically inaccessible on Pandemonium unless you're already in it, as there are only a couple shells that are reasonably skilled, and they expect you to have recent references. Sure, I could say I was a leader in Kara (which is coincidentally one of the big ones) well before ToAU came out, but that doesn't mean anything today.

That aside though, I will finish leveling BLM, try to chill with my SO's shell, and see what happens. If nothing comes of it then I probably will quit. The reason I've hung on this long, though, isn't really because I hope to recapture the glory days -- I actually think endgame is pretty awesome. I just want to be able to do it.

But yeah, I remember when Modeko and I would be synthing, she actually had a "Crafting" ls that we all used to hang in. At one point Simd would pop in, Worldillia and a lot of other high level crafters at the time, talk about being awe struck. Her English was surprisingly good and she was a HUGE help as far as shortcuts at the time in regards to leveling Gold. Anyway, Blind would come to the guild in Bastok and spam her for a LS and tell her he knew Japanese etc.. to try to get a pearl. She would always say "NA Blind too weak? Money does he need it?" lol, even she knew what the hell he was doing. He was a strange kid to say the least. I wonder if Modeko still plays? If so tell her I said hello! Good times man, good times.

Man I know, I still have a POL message he sent me about a 2 weeks before he died asking me to come back to Pandy. He helped me unlock Pld and I helped him unlock Drk. That tells you how long ago that was. We died so much we both deleveled in Davoi back to 28, because we would HP and did not know Prism powder and Silent oils existed lol. We ended up having to go back to the jungle and exp all over again. We disbanded our pts without notices the SECOND we leveled. Im talking a 50 xp buffer and shit lol. We posted it in the Pandy "stupid shit" thread on lolalla a few years ago. I definitely miss that dude, its almost been a year.
