creating tech demos for half-assed technologies isn't innovative, it's shovelware with a show. real innovation doesn't come simply from reaching a large user base, it comes from reaching the right user base. the PS2 had an install base of 100+ million gamers and consequently encouraged actual innovation, becoming the console of choice for indie japanese developers and for high-concept artsy games like Ico, Shadow of the Colossus, Katamari Damacy, and God Hand. the Wii has an install base of almost 40 million geriatrics and yuppies who get together on the weekends for Wii parties, and has encouraged the growth of kiddy shit like Cooking Mama, Ubisoft's Imagine series, and SHIT THAT IS NOT GAMES like fucking WiiMusic.
The Wii is likely the greatest thing to happen to Nintendo since the original NES, but their business model is fucking toxic to gaming.
