    Dragoon

So i decide to test out drg and theres somethign i don´t get, for once seriously 20min recast to get wyverm, whys that i tought point of dragoon was to have a pet.
How instant cast on wyverm would make dragoon broken, other is the pet is too slow.

P.S. Not bashing job just want to know

Since it's in newbie forum I'll try give a decent reply.

"Call Wyvern" was originally Dragoon's 2hr job ability, you had one wyvern per two hours and it it died, tough shit. The fact that SE actually reduced it to 20mins and gave us a more appropriate melee-like 2hr was a big deal couple of years ago. At low levels the 20min timer may seem a bit sucky (especially since most people seem to XP levels 1-10 naked or in crafting aprons these days so your wyvern will almost always out-DD you when you don't have TP) but at 25+ when you get Spirit Link to cure your wyvern it's perfectly sufficient. Later on events like Einherjar make you wish it would be instant-recast again but then you remember it used to be two hours and are grateful for what you have now.

Also, you can technically insta-summon your wyvern if you dismiss it with full HP. If it however dies or you get on Chocobo etc. you do need to wait till the 20 minutes is up.

If it were instant, with enough time, you could solo pretty much anything that didn't one shot your wyvern, and would be broken. Summon Wyvern, run away, it dies, summon, run, rinse... yeah...

Why does that sound a lot like what another job does for solo?

It is kind of annoying that the only person that can cure them is you in places with lots of AoE spammy mobs like Einherjar. I think mine lasted through two skeletons thanks to Black Cloud and Blood Saber spam.

Campaign NPCs are the only ones that can otherwise heal them, and only if they get hit with a curaga since they won't target them directly. Would be nice if they included them in a player's curaga if nothing else.

If the 20 min recast wasn't there DRG would be broken for solo and bcnms and the like, as it is now DRG can easily solo/duo anything that doesn't spam aoes or has a 1 shot move for 700+ HP (ie half your hp at 75)

DRG was my 1st 75 job and yea Vigilia I remember walking EVERYWHERE years ago JUST to have my wvern out and my call ready to use in case. SE lowering it to 20 min and giving them a better 2 hour made almost every DRG dance for joy. The wyvern has a pretty low delay and attack as H2H and has subtle blow. They also have pretty decent ACC. Remember they gain EXP now and level up a little if you do not zone. So right there is what sets them apart from BST, well that and your wyvern does not have a chance to bite your leg when you turn your back. If you can stick it out to 25 and get that spirit link you might like it more can keep her alive longer. Most healers wont get overly mad if you warn them you gotta heal your wyvern.

I don't really have a problem with the 20 minute timer. With judicious use of Spirit Link (hey, it makes a great way to get yourself into Healing Breath range! 2 for 1!), it's not all that hard to keep your Wyvern up at least 15 out of 20 minutes, even in the most AoE spamhappy areas. My problem is that, unlike Jump timers, Spirit Surge does not reset the Wyvern timer.

There have been times in the past where my party's getting shitstomped, the wyvern died, and I've recalled it JUST for the purpose of using the 2 hour. Seriously, had a 19:55 timer left once I used it. That. Sucks. I understand the restriction of not being able to recall the Wyvern while Spirit Surge is active, but once I'm done digesting Mikan I should be able to call him again.

    *shrugs* Just my thoughts.

This is interesting although I'm missing something here. Do campaign npc's cast curaga or are you referring to a sch's accession -> cure bounced off an npc? I know campaign npc's will buff pets, but I've yet to see them use cure on a pet. Is this possible?

This would be wonderful, but I think it would have to be applied to at least Beastmasters as well, if not all pet classes (I could see justification for PUPs not as their automatons are mechanical instead of biological, and SMNs because of the magical nature/immediate resummon, but then there's balance). I don't see how it'd be all THAT hard though, since we can already cure Adventuring Fellows (though those are probably handled differently since they take up a party slot).

I am willing to bet if Ryphen thinks about it there was a NPC BST at that campaign. I have seen one aorund the Sandy campaigns and he usually has 2 or 3 pets out at once. I was near him the other day and he did some aoe pet healing thing that was just cool because it got my wyvern too. I have yet to see a NPC target my wyvern for a heal. But i have never seen a SCH do their stuff to near my wyvern yet to see if that hits her.

No, it's not a SCH accession heal. There are a few NPCs that cast Curaga on themselves. I do almost exclusively Windy Campaign, so the 2 obvious examples are Lutete and Zonpa-Zippa. Their curagas will heal wyverns and beastmaster pets as well as PCs and NPCs. Not sure about automatons since my PUP is level 1.

They cast Protectra and Shellra as well but I'm not sure if that hits the pets. They only seem to do it once so it's easy to miss. I know the healer NPCs will cast Protect and Shell on a charmed beast pet, but they won't do it to a jug pet or a wyvern.

I remember one epic Garlaige battle, me and a couple of friends were in a room full of Plenilune Ronin with Lutete and her light elementals, and I had a charmed mousse that I was letting tank a bunch at once since Lutete kept hitting it with her Curaga to keep it alive.

Ah, but you forget that Automatons can cast Cure on themselves as well!

That's good to know. I generally don't do campaign in dungeons so I've not seen Lutete, but I've seen Zonpa-Zippa several times and never seen him do a Curaga which is odd. Perhaps it's filtered by one of my settings or the lag.

I've never seen Rongo-Nango cast spells either, but then I've never seen his pets do it too and apparently the dhalmel and manticore can. There's also the possibility that the dhalmel pet used healing breeze. I know when I use Dhalmel pets outside campaign, I'll get healed by healing breeze too, which is cool, so perhaps in campaign his pet will hit everyone in range, pets and all.

Umm. Since I've managed to derail this thread slightly anyway, does the smn aoe heals like healing ruby and spring water also heal pets?

That is cool. I am gonna go do some windy ones now for kicks lol
and Arcanesoul is right both time I have seen it there was a dhamal pet there so it might have been healing breeze that did the pet cure not the BST. I have so mush stuff filtered for lag there its not even funny.

I'd have to test avatar healing on pets since I never paid attention to it when I would Campaign on SMN. I would agree with the above and say no until proven otherwise. It definitely heals NPCs though.
