    Metal Chip Run

    Hey there

I am a co limbus LS leader on Seraph and we obtained a metal chip not so long ago.

I have looked at a lot of the usual FFXI websites and not found really much information on the basement zones, especially the Temenos one.

From what i can see, you have a very short space of time and the coin yield is that to any normal run.

Firstly, is it worth it? i.e. taking aside the low coin coint (per wiki), is it possible to pick up any proto pieces, or other access chips whilst in a basement zone?

Secondly, is there a website which lists mob layout in the temenos zone, maybe the job of each Aern, and the location of the Temenos Ghrah which is supposidly the boss of the zone and potential workable strategies? Also where exactly the groups of 3 mobs are which drop the time chest.

Ive been doing limbus for years and the wiki site has never really been updated with any other information over the years.

Anyone with good insights into these zones i would appreciate.

    Short version, not worth it.

There's a couple of threads on BG from way back when, new search might make them tough to find. Largest yield was around 110coins if I'm remembering correctly. Pretty sure no chips were found with the few wins that were posted.

Pretty sure manaburn was used for Temenos zone and melee parties for Apollyon.

Apollyon one doesn't seem worth it, from the time I did it. Temenos, I've never actually read of anyone completing. I always hoped to win it personally, but I always had a hard time convincing my limbus group to do them (for obvious reasons, it takes a day away from regular progression). The limbus group with most of my LS might try sometime soon though, so I hope to tag along.

Anyone have that show successful completion of either zone? I've done the Apollyon one once, was a disaster since we didn't have a good strategy and ended up being a waste of time.

Wow, did a search and it turns out I asked about the Temenos zone 2.5 years ago(we never did go).

Following is a direct link in the thread to a post that says they beat the Temenos zone.

Knew I got my 110 number from somewhere, forgot they got another metal chip from it. No screenshots sadly.

We did an apollyon metal chip run and honestly I don't think they're really worth it. Might be nice for a bit of fun but they need more people than most of the zones and I don't think it's worth the hassle. The Apollyon one was harder work than we were expecting, we didn't beat it. We went in with not nearly enough people. We have a couple of chips floating around which no doubt we'll use at some point but there's usually an associated shudder with the term 'metal chip' in our shell.

Back when I had a Limbus shell, metal chips were unanimously passed to drop to the ground. They were far considered 'not worth the 30k cosmo-cleanse'. Now that it's 15k, maybe someday it might be worth toying with again. but I don't think so.

Can not help with Temenos but until recently my LS always did a metal chip run in Apollyon every cycle of Ultima/Omega. As long as you can get full time you should average 135 coins a run.

For Apollyon you need two solid tanks (we use 2 PLDs), a heavy DD party, and one BLM party.

Don't go in with less then 16 people or it will not be worth the return.

Without TH4 there is a noticeable drop in coins.

    General Strategy:
    • Melee will bring at least two types of weapons (e.g., piercing, slashing, blunt).
    • Melee and mages will aslo use /assist main tank to target mobs.
    • All RDMs will /BLM for extra ES sleeps.
    • Prior to entering, an ES sleepga order will be established - the order will be RDM (in BLM party) > BLM > BLM > BLM > BLM > RDM (in tank party). Each mage in the ES sleepga cycle should use ES approximately 15 seconds before the sleepga is needed (e.g., when mobs are pulled or when last helper in Yag group is killed).
    • The COR in the BLM party will restore ES by using Random Deal once initial ES sleep order has been exhausted. If Random Deal doesn't reset ES then COR will use Wild Card.
    • The COR in the melee party will use Random Deal after the Orc set and Wild Card after any MNKs have used their 2 hours on the Yagudo NM.

    Specific Strategy:
    • Quadav Set
      • The THF will use Perfect Dodge then pull the Quadav NM (which is weak to piercing weapons and magic) to the right side of entrance area.
      • The RDM/BLM in the BLM party will ES Sleepga the helpers and main tank will pull NM away from helpers (out of range of Benediction) to the left side of the entrance area.
      • Kill the NM.
        • Anyone who can equip piercing weapons will bring them and equip them.
        • BLMs will use 2 hours to help kill the NM as fast as possible.
        • Approxinately 45 seconds after the helpers were initially slept, the first BLM in the sleep order will overwrite sleep with ES Sleepga II.
      • Kill the helpers.

      Orc Set
      • Once the mages have full MP and the melee have full HP, the holding tank will pull the Orc NM which is weak to slashing weapons.
      • Next BLM in ES sleep order will ES Sleepga II the helpers.
      • Kill the NM.
        • Anyone who can equip slashing weapons will bring them and equip them.
        • Jobs who have slashing weapons as their primary weapon (except NINs) will use 2 hours to kill the NM as fast as possible.
      • Kill the helpers.

      Yagudo Set
      • Once the mages have full MP and the melee have full HP, the holding tank will pull the Yagudo NM which is weak to blunt.
      • The holdiing tank will hold the NM (which does not sleep).
      • Kill the helpers.
        • Next BLM in ES sleep order will ES Sleepga II the helpers.
        • Melee will kill the helpers off one-by-one.
        • Once all the helpers are killed, the helpers will respawn.
        • Rinse and repeat.
      • At the 5 minute warning, we will start killing the Yagudo NM.
        • Any helpers that are still up will be kept slept
        • Blunt weapon users will use 2 hours to kill the NM as fast as possible.
        • All mages will assist in keeping everyone healed.
        • WHMs should use Benediction immediately after Yagudo NM uses Astral Flow.
      • After Yagudo NM has been killed, any remaining helpers will be killed (time permitting).

Don't get me wrong, I find it neat someone does this area, but considering Apollyon areas can be done with 4 people each (best case escenario, with 16 you can get an Omega set in one day), is it really worth doing this metal chip area regularly just for 8 coins per head? Sounds like a bad deal to me =/

quite a few duo setups can get 15-20 coins each in apollyon NW, basically any trio 10-13, and solo blm or rdm with great nuking gear 30+.. not to mention it drops an omega chip and af+1 mats >_>

What they said. 16 people is an Omega set in 1 day and about the same number of coins.

Theres a chance you get another metal chip from winning it? Whats the rate of that happening from those that have done it. (I never have)

I'm pretty sure that you will not get any chip for doing these CS apollyon or Central Temenos Basement.

I agree from pop set point of view it's not the best deal. Our reasons for doing it are that pool the coins from Metal chip runs and split them among the LS Members who do limbus to help out but don't need anything from Ultima/Omega. The other reason we don't just split farm the Omega sets anymore is that we wound up with a huge backlog of people needing Apollyon AF1+1 items since the split runs tended to lower the count of AF items since less item chests could be taken overall.

4 people gets all item chests in apollyon NW, 4 in SE, 6 in NE, and idk how many people you'd have to bring to SW to get both item chests but pretty sure it's enough to not be worth it anyway.. aside from that, doing a split means you're getting chests from 2 zones even if you get marginally less from one of them

Random AF+1 materials dropping would at least make the runs worthwhile. My Limbus group has talked about doing these but nobody seems interested in the number of people required, the low chip split, and the only reward besides coins is minus experience points and more metal chips.

did Temenos Basement a few weeks ago, manaburned. Looking at the map, skip the top middle set...there's a TON of Aerns. Best to move on to the western set, or go for the middle. x2 refresh is the way to go, as time is of the essence.
