I hardly have an amazing camera, but I do find myself liking some of the photos I took when I visited Finland over new year. Spoilered for size!

Either way, I think my statement holds true. When people put too much trust into Photoshop for making their images better, they end up taking shitty pictures in the first place. Your photography will never improve if you're relying on a crutch to fix everything in post... especially when there are certain things that even Photoshop cannot completely fix. I don't disagree with what you've said upon elaborating, and I hadn't really taken offense as what you'd said about the photo. I agree that it can't be restored to perfection unless a ridiculously excessive amount of time is spent on it, touching things up pixel by pixel -- and no one would do that. The only thing I did take issue with was the notion that Photoshop should not be used to touch-up a mediocre photo.

Basically, I was arguing that some people will never acquire the skill to take masterful shots, but are no less deserving of what little improvements their snaps can receive. To them, it's not an excuse or a cover, as they're never going to attend photography school, never going to read a book on the subject -- they simply want to take their pictures and make them as presentable as possible.

It's mostly for the memories. Sentimental reasons. Not sale or demonstration.

My grandma for example, uses a POS 35mm camera. I was looking at xmas photos with her today, and honestly they look like crap. Underexposed, grainy, etc. But it doesn't matter to her because she cares about the subject and memory of the photo, not the photo itself.

There are people that (ZOMGOSH) do not care about the quality of their snapshots. As long as they can tell what is going on, it doesn't matter to them. Similar to people with their audio systems. Some people have no problem listening to their HTIB systems with 64kb/s mp3s. Other people cringe at the thought of that.

Anywho, I'm gonna go take some night shots because it's a full moon and I'm somewhat depressed.

hv20 or hv30 or d90 thats like a 1000 dollar price range but big bang for your buck... cheeper ones i really have no clue, i think there all about the same.

I've got about 200 more shots like that but those are mostly city or mountain ranges.

i was afraid to get out of the car while taking pictures, they'd steal it in a heartbeat sadly.

The second picture I posted is in Watkins Glen, New York. It's in a gorge, so the light comes in from above blocked out by trees and stone in some areas, thus making it dark on one side of the rainbow and light on the other. I was under a (sort-of) waterfall.

Looking for a new camera for mainly my sister, although me and my non-tech savvy parents might also use it some.

Basically looking for an amateur camera that's easy to use but takes great shots. We have used an olympus for years and my sister has actually taken some impressive photos with it, so I'm looking for something more for her since some of her shots look semi professional and she might want to get into it.

Has to have Fast action capabilities since she rides horses and good shutter speed for multiple photos over a second or 2 (say if she is jumping to have every frame of the jump).

The catch is..... I'm not looking to spend too much! Looking for a Digital SLR I guess? Not too knowledgeable on cameras, but I'd like her to be able to make portpholios, and travel to some spots with me to shoot.

I guess a simple way to explain it, the camera has to be easy to use say if my parents use it, but it has to be capable of taking exceptional photos so she can further her photography. Thanks.

Look around on Nikon or Canon's sites. Most Digital SLRs are incredibly functional for both a casual and dedicated photographer.

They're guaranteed to have an automatic setting or scene modes (which would be applicable for you or your parents), but they also have customizable modes based on ISO, shutter speed, aperture, which by the sounds of it would be more up to key for your sister.

It all depends on the price range you're looking for. Note that the price range can raise really high, and the most expensive definitely doesn't mean it'll have everything you're looking for.

Just bought an AE-1 program off ebay for $47. Also got a few books on understanding exposure and composition. The camera came with a Canon FD 50mm lens, 1:1.8. Is that lense enough for now(since I'm a beginner) or should I look into grabbing another lense?

The lens it came with is pretty ideal unless you want to get into macro or something of the sort. Since you're a beginner, it'd be best to not complicate things, I'd say use the lens you have until you're competent with the functions of your camera, then experiment.
