About the D5000, it's right in between the D60 and D90 overall. It's closer to the D60 in size and price, and closer to the D90 in performance. If it's anything more than $700, get a D90.

P.S. I shoot a Canon 5D (I wish I had held out just a little longer for the MkII). I think all four of these were shot with a 17-40mm at 40mm only. I only switch between that lense, a 50mm and a 100mm for fashion. Wide open whenever possible. I need to invest in some neutral density filters for all my lenses (maybe just some step-down rings) just so I can shoot as wide open as possible at all times.
I have a close friend who owns one, and she'll let me use it pretty much whenever. It's just over $700, considering I already have lenses, and there is a moderately distinguishable difference between $700 and $1000. It was either the D90 or this, so I'll go with this. I'll let you know how I feel about my decision later. Hah.![]()

Lecia's are for trendy fucks with more money than sense.
You'll have a better time with a 5D MKII and an L lens over an M8. All the M8 does it make you look like a faggot.
ah
my friend has one and the shots he showed me were pretty sick; come to think of it he is a trendy faggot though
i'll keep it in mind. i mean, my d40 is doing fine as you can see; just that i'm saving for a new one and he can hook me up with one for cheap[er].
At what, $4,000 for the body and $500+ for the PRIME (they don't have real zooms for these if I remember correctly) lenses, it's kinda pointless in my opinion. It's kinda sexy, and you get that olde rangefinder fun, but it's not something I'd take seriously and not something I think would hold up very well outside of trendy use.
It's the photographer, not the camera.
Just as it's the driver, not the car.
Or the player and not the ball/shoes/field/etc.
Someone who buys an account with 5 maxed jobs and shitloads of gear and gil will be shit next to the person who's played 5,000 hours.
A good photographer will be able to take amazing shots on anything from a $100,000 large format digital to a $0.25 pin hole. A shitty photographer won't be able to take an amazing shot with anything.
Wow so many amazing shots.
So are any of you on Flickr and want to be contacts on there? I love the site but not enough of my friends use it, so on the look out for more people to interact with on there.
I dig a lot of the challenge groups on there. I'm in a D40/d60 weekly challenge group that has really pushed me to get out and shoot weekly. It has really been a lot of fun.
If anyone wants to add me as a contact, here's my stream:

Not sure if you guys like to play around with light art but I find it really entertaining in terms of things to do with a camera.
If you don't know what I'm talking about, not the best example but here:
