Read "Understanding Photography Field Guide" also by Bryan Peterson. Better than Understanding Exposure (better, as in, it's small, can fit in a camera bag, has all the information from understanding exposure and more, and more suited for digital).

Also, Joe McNally, The Moment it Clicks. Haven't read it, but it comes heavily recommended.

The Moment it Clicks is pretty good, but it's a $60 book.

Yeah, I actually went to Barnes and Nobles a few hours ago, picked it up, and put it right back down. I was looking for "The Hot Shoe Diaries", but they didn't have it.

You should hang out at photo.net it is the forums I visit second most after these. Also Davricle regardless of how good you think your photos are you should continue to post them. The more you take and the more you post the better you become.

I would say for most of your photos just watch your exposure and make sure you clearly think out what your subject is. I think the one of the kid sitting on the cliff could benefit greatly from adjustments in exposure and levels to highlight the cliff face and the kid and add some more definition to the sky. I think overall it is your strongest photo that you posted because it has a story, strong composition, and clear subject.

Dunno why I like this picture so much, I guess because it looks cool. Strait out of camera, no post-processing (other than converting from RAW to JPG). I shot it through a mesh playpen (obviously, I didn't focus on the mesh). I thought it turned out cool.

@Dav is that Placerita Canyon? I think i remember going there back in '05.

Also, has anyone here ever used a Holga? They seem hella gimmicky but I think for a just fucking around kind of camera it might be nice. I'm still having fun with my AE-1 though.

See also: Plastic and Fisheye lenses. Basically recreate the lomo/holga look, inside your DSLR without needing to process/scan printed photos.

I took this the other day in my photography class. Have a bunch more but I think this was the best one that I took:

    http://i3.photobucket.com/albums/y97/Askari0/2.jpg

Just did a little touching up on it in photoshop. Only issue I had was the small amount of blue paint on the model's ring finger. I tried hitting it with the healing brush and what other little that I know if photoshop but I couldn't get rid of it, I only got a blue brown spot instead. I plan on asking my teacher in class tomorrow unless I'm able to get some advice that works here.

Any advice or criticism is greatly appreciated. I hope to become a frequent in this thread

That would be easy to get rid of just hit it with the clone stamp rather than the healing brush. Zoom in really close to it and then clonestamp skin next to the area over the blue until its gone.

^ I had forgotten completely about the clone stamp. Did this and it looks fine now. Thanks!

Anyone bother with any of the Lensbaby line (Muse, Composer, Control Freak), curious what you think of it. I am still trying to determine if an Oly 4/3 mount would work for me or not, or I would try it myself. I need to head over to the pro shop and just find out.

Anyway, just curious. I find the 'toy camera' craze a bit funny right now. Toy Camera Apps make me smile.

I've played with one on a number of occasions and I can say if you're interested in any of the more novelty styles of photography (as I mentioned, lomo and holga instantly spring to mind, as well as tilt shift) I'd say it was an absolute god send. You only need to look at their gallery and some flickr pools to see their popularity and capability for amazing shots.

Speaking of Olympus, I recently decided to buy an Olympus OM mount prime for video (28mm). It's a super quality lens, and for the money you can't really ask for more. The only problem is it's made me want another, wider lens... Going out taking some shots tomorrow, might even have a video if I can find a lightweight tripod, just to show off how great it is!

I think i will have to grab one for the missus for Valentines or something, then promptly steal it. I really don't think that they the Olympus 4/3 mount will work on my camera sadly, but I know they sell these in store here so I might ask.

The gallery and the Flick groups are making me want it.

    I love that bottom picture.

I shot a similar picture as the one with the overexposed face. Well, not really similar, but I accidentally forgot to recompose and I overexposed like hell, and the eyes come out freaky.

I swear to all that is holy that I did not photoshop those eyes.
