OH MAN HOW HAVEN'T I KNOWN ABOUT THIS THREAD BEFORE :<

I less than three all techno/trance/electronica/house/etc. but especially chillout music. Unfortunately I can't really tell you much about outlets, but here are some of my favorite CDs I've acquired:

==In Search of Sunrise, Volume 6 (mixed by Tiësto) (there are 7 volumes to date and they're all pretty fucking awesome, but IMO 6 is best)
==The Chillout Annual 2002 (Ministry of Sound) ----My favorite CD ever
    ==Afterdark: San Francisco
    ==Afterdark: Chicago
==Afterdark: London... matter of fact, everything in the Afterdark series is great
    ==Chillout Classics (Ministry of Sound)
==Fuck Me I'm Famous (mixed by David Guetta)
==The Underground 2008 (Ministry of Sound)
==Twice in a Blue Moon (Ferry Corsten's new album; everything else by him is amazing too though)

It's not exactly all 8bit stuff, but there is a part towards the middle/end of the song where it reminds of me of something 8bit, and it's pretty awesome.

They Always Come back - Arnej
YouTube - Arnej - They always come back

    On a somewhat unrelated(to 8bit) note:

Cerf, Mitska, and Jaren - Light the Skies(retrobyte remix aka the more well known version)
YouTube - Cerf, Mitiska, & Jaren - Light The Skies

Never figured I'd end up replying to a post but this is something I'm pretty into!
On the electronica side of things, YouTube - BigElectro's Channel usually updates pretty frequently with new remixes and such. Mstrkrft, Justice, Daft Punk, Kavinsky, SebastiAn, Pendulum and Unknown Error are definitely artists to look into when you want that stuff. (Though Unknown Error is more DnB)

    Here's some of my favorites:
YouTube - Kavinsky - Testarossa Autodrive (SebastiAn Remix)
YouTube - Unknown Error - The Yearning
YouTube - Sexual Sportswear [ SebastiAn remix ] - Sebastien Tellier
YouTube - pendulum - hold your colour
YouTube - Dance ~ D.A.N.C.E <This and sexual sportswear are definitely in my tops overall.

Got a good number of full length mixes here DragonMinded.com :: Music, and he has cue files or track lists for some, so you can go back and figure out what's what if you want. DJ Doboy (also at djdoboy.com) and GT are/were veeeery common to see playing on Di.fm.

What I've wound up doing too is browsing the iTunes store...not everything there, of course, but there's enough that if you start looking at user-made lists or whatnot you can potentially run across some stuff you like.

I've been a huge fan of the electronic genre for a long time. Mostly into house, trance and techno. Occasionally d&b & breakbeats as well. Tiesto, AVB, Bad Boy Bill (<3 this mans mixes, he is the one who really got me into house), Carl Cox, Deadmau5, Josh the Funky One, DJ Dan, Jonathan Peters, Judge Jules, Stonebridge and the list can go on and on.

If you are looking for some good mixes across all electronic genre's check out Alldj.org. This website is updated multiple times a day with mixes from all over. Some live club sets and some live radio promos. Also has some good link on the left to streaming radio stations you might be interested in.

Also you can check out GROOVE RADIO :: Welcome. Its another streaming site. That has alot of guest mixes and interviews conducted by Swedish Egil. This guy knows his DJs and music.

Not sure if anyone here has Sirius/XM radio but if you do check out Area, channel 38 on Sirius not sure what it is on XM. Even if you dont have just go to sirius.com and look up channel 38's page. They list all the dj's that have shows on the channel with links to thier own personal webpages where you can find more mixes, podcast etc.

Hmm about all i can think of now but i am sure i got more links at home. Work has most places blocked, stupid websense, so no need to keep the links here. Enjoy

If you fancy something a bit harsh there's always rivethead music.

    Suicide Commando
    YouTube - Suicide Commando-Desire

    Hocico
    YouTube - Hocico - Wounds

    Decoded Feedback
YouTube - Decoded Feedback - Phoenix

    Front 242 (classic!)
    YouTube - Front 242 - Headhunter

    Icon of Coil
YouTube - Icon of coil - FloorKiller

    Siechtum
YouTube - Siechtum - Judas Ischariot

    And plugging my own stuff:

    Acid Ice Flows
YouTube - Acid Ice Flows - Wreckage

(this is my newest song, it's not rivethead stuff, but it's still electonic based. A remake of an old The Cure song "All Cats Are Grey")
YouTube - Acid Ice Flows - All Cats Are Grey (The Cure cover)

Personally, I find out about new electronic 3 ways.

1: Podcasts. Like someone said earlier, Above and Beyond's Trance Around the World, Tiesto's Club Life, and AVB's State of Trance are all awesome, and I find out about a lot of new artists that way.

2: DC++ P2P Network services offer a unique way of getting music, in that you're not looking FOR a specific artist. I used to log onto Electronic hubs and just poke around people's folders, and download what I thought looked even remotely interesting.

3: Friends/Shows. I just listen to what my friends do. If I like it, I get more, if not, then w/e. Going to Ultra down in Miami opened me up to a lot of stuff I didn't expect I'd like (My mind was blown by how badass Moby was. Seriously, Moby, being a good dj?!) Go to shows, see openers, broaden tastes!

And now, a huuuuuuuuuuuge list of Electronic music I like.
-Justice: French House, unique, heavy style, but I'm sure you know them.
-Daft Punk: Once again, everyone knows Daft Punk
-Pendulum: Amazingly fun dnb. Best god damn music on earth to dance to.
-Infected Mushroom: Probably my favorite psytrance group. Fun tracks, good guitar, and great beats
-The Orb: This is veering into IDM, but I fucking love The Orb. Download Adventures Beyond the Ultraworld, BEST ALBUM EVER (on LSD).
    -Dieselboy: DnB, fun stuff.
-Rabbit in the Moon: Kinda out there, but great as well. Listen to Phases of an Out of Body Experience.
-Soulwax/2 Many DJs: Dance Rock. Amazingly fun shows, great remixes. E Talking is the best music video on earth.
-Benny Benassi: Great House DJ. I saw him live at Ultra, my mind was completely and totally blown. His album stuff is kinda meh, but GET HIS LIVE STUFF.
-DJ Dan: I don't know much about him, but I saw his set at Ultra, and it was great. Really trippy, intense beats and high energy.
-The Knife: Great Swedish electronic music. Not exactly danceable though.
-MSTRKRFT: Dance rock. Some of the best. Their remix album is great. The Looks is also an awesome album.
-Venetian Snares: Mentioned by someone here. Really fucked up. Really Good. Szamar Madar (Definitely spelled wrong) is a great track.
-Squarepusher: Hello Everything, awesome album. Squarepusher is kinda experimental, bordering almost on glitch, but not quite.
    -Black Sun Empire: Great DnB
-James Zabiela: Great DJ. Kinda trippy and intense, but great if you like that kinda shit.
-Girl Talk: Best mash up DJ on earth.
-Ferry Corsten: Generic trance. I saw him at Ultra, he wasn't BAD, but good filler if you want something happy to listen to.
    -Junkie XL: The fucking man.
-Fischerspooner: Electroclash. Great, great music. 50% fashion, 50% music, 100% great. Listen to Emerge. #1 is a sexy album.
-Deadmau5: Good DJ. Can't really describe it, I wanna get my hands on more Deadmau5 but I've been having trouble finding it. :/
-Boys Noize: I know nothing about them, except that their remix of Phantom pt II is THE BEST SONG EVER.

Anyway, that's just some of the stuff I have. Hit me up with a PM and I can give you a bigger list when I get home from work/maybe aim or MSN some files over to people. I LOVE sharing music. :3

BBC - Radio 1 - Dance is all you need.

Pete Tong and Mary Anne Hobbs tend to be on the cutting edge of stuff. Trance and house stadium days are largely over for the big industry people and megaclubs in Europe. Minimal and techno are taking over.

Cool thing about on the shows on Radio 1 is that they always mention the newest tunes being played and always have guest DJ's on and give a bit of background on them assuming they have new listeners.

If you want some solid minimal or techno check out Richie Hawtin ( also goes by Plastikman ) or Ricardo Villalobos.

Beatportal is also a great site for info on dance music. It's a blog run by Beatport.com, which as an mp3 downloading site like iTunes but for DJ's.

I have some Old jungle hardcore mixes and a few minimal / techno mixes on my public disk if you want to check them out. The minimal ones are done by me, I can throw some more up tonight by some good friends that DJ at Beta here in Denver. ( Beta being the megaclub owned by Beatport )

    public.me.com/stephenpenders
    folder titles "Mixes"

Sidenote: Minimal is alot more intense and complex than the name implies. It's not chilled out or boring by any means, it's more a label given to production standards and cutting the fat out of the music like excessive layers, vocals, gaudy basslines etc. I suggest giving it a shot.

Oh also forgot to mention the best places to get solid mixes are music forums.

dogsonacid.com is mostly for DnB, but minimal is picking up such huge steam along with dubstep you'll find a good amount of people posting solid mixes they have done themselves or find on the web.

Also a nice place is mnml.nl for techno and minimal.

    Enjoy

Oh, I forgot to mention BBC1, the essential mix is pretty much the best radio show ever made!

Breezeblock is tight too (now it's called something different, I think?), I have a lot of great mixes from that (Squarepusher, RJD2, etc)

In response to the post above, this site is a great source for downloading upto date Essential Mixes, as well as a good database for older sets (stretching far back into the 90's)

As for music, I have a pretty ecelptic taste in electronica, I'll love some stuff (Justice, Does it Offend you yeah?, Pendulum for mainstream) and go off on a tangent into IDM and Breakbeat/core/dubstep/god knows what. As usual my source for finding interesting new bands are the related links on websites such as last.fm and what.cd, particularly what as it has user submitted data so you often get very unheard of bands which are linked according to some random muso with possibly the widest taste in music evar.

My friend is also a good source for suggesting I download new music, he DJs a lot at house parties and sometimes at his work events (works in a pretty cool hairdressers) so whenever he comes over he's like "Oh you don't have _____? Get some on the go mate, it's mint!" n1bro.

Meh I'll go through some artists in my winamp library under the search terms Electronic:

)EIB( aka Bad Company: some old skool DnB
    AFX/Aphex Twin: Of course.
Basement Jaxx: Haha, can't go wrong with some tunes from the jaxx
Bonobo: very chilled and relaxed, more trip hop than electronica
Boom Boom Satellites: Japanese rock/punk/electro band, heavy drums, awesome singing and sounds. (Photon 1 and Out Loud are some of their better albums)
Boys Noize: Most of what you'll find from these guys are remixes, they're very good at them! See: Phantom Pt. II remix.
The Chemical Brothers: More UK stuff.
Cream Live: Not particularly an artist, but a great venue for some awesome 90's stuff, particularly Rob Dougan, James Lavelle etc.etc.
    Daft Punk: ....awesome
    Digitalism
Does it Offend You, Yeah?: Best album of 2008 imo.
The Flashbulb: Mostly associated with DDR games, but some good & crazy songs going on here, good interim band for branching out into more glitch/idm stuff.
Girl Talk: mentioned before, awesome mashups, very pop remixes however, not much actual dance going on. Interesting what he does with songs however.
The Go! Team: Indie meets electro meets cheer leading chants meets I don't even fucking know but they're awesome.
    Hot Chip
Justice: Seminal french house band. If you don't have their album srsly wtf.
    Kid Alex
    Kid606
    Kid Koala
    Klaxons
    LTJ Bukem
Massive Attack: the original heavy beat masters, very soulful. probably the least dancy artists on this list however.
    Metronomy
    Mr. Scruff
    The Prodigy: naturally
    Pendulum: see above.
Rob Dougan: I think everyone has heard Clubbed to Death atleast a billion times, but his album Furious Angels has some similarly orchestrated tunes. His singing isn't up to much cop though.
Squarepusher: also mentioned here before, has some very good trip hop tunes, very varied.
Venetian Snares: mentioned before (no surprise) this is usually the band people have 1 or two tracks on their ipods/playlists that they play to friends to say 'look at this wierd shit I'm listening to, it must make me awesome' but is actually quite good if you know what to look through. Rossz Csillag Alatt Szueletett is one of his more accessible albums in terms of ease of listening for the uninitiated, followed by Detrimentalist (I think, I don't have all his albums on this computer... if not it's My Downfall)

There's a shit load I missed out, but I think that'll cover it for stuff to look at if you haven't already heard them.

God damn, you had so many I forgot to add on my list!

~Hot Chip is really great dance rock, very melodic, and an awesome beat to dance to.
~Chemical Brothers is the second best live show I've seen, behind Daft Punk
~Basement Jaxx: Crazy Itch Radio is the most fun album, Hey U is soooooooooo much fun

OH, someone I forgot: Simian Mobile Disco. Great great group. Check out Justice's work with them on We Are Your Friends

Kid Koala is great, kinda off the beaten path though. I have some mixes from him, but it's not for everyone. The mixes I have at least is a lot of breaks, random talking snippets and stuff. I loved it, but like I said, not for everyone.

Question to Blabj: Rossz Csillag Alatt Szueletett is the album that has Szamar Madar on it, right? That's a great album, a lot of classical-ish stuff mixed into it.
Personally, I like Winnipeg is a Frozen Shithole, but that's because I'm fucked up. >.>

Gawwwd sorry to spam this thread but I love electronic music. D:

Definitely some weird stuff, back when I played FFXI one of my friends actually bought a 12" of his for like 120$~ or something ridiculous (apparently it was a real limited release), gave me a couple of tracks off of it and it's pretty awesome (though quite weird).

Also, @above, Szamar Madar is a fantastic song, it's about the only song I play on FFR anymore

All kinds of awesome shit coming out of the woodwork now Have to find some time to start really sifting through it all, also if anyone has a Soulseek account (or whatever P2P network that may be, I only know of SS however) and has a bunch of random stuff I could download let me know, I had entirely forgotten about doing that until someone mentioned doing it in here.

Yeah that's the one. I like Chocolate Wheelchair and Doll Doll Doll too, but to be honest I only listen to his stuff when I'm in a vsnares mood. It's not something I could just put on and listen to randomly.

I usually just go to 1.FM and listen to their trance station. Found many good DJs by taking note of the artist/song of the ones I liked. I found good DJs there such as Paul Van Dyk, Tiesto, Cosmic Gate, and Ferry Corsten.
