Affliction: Day of Reckoning - Jan. 24th

    PPV matches
WAMMA Heavyweight Championship bout: Fedor Emelianenko vs. Andrei Arlovski
Heavyweight bout: Josh Barnett vs. Gilbert Yvel
Light Heavyweight bout: Renato Sobral vs. Rameau Thierry Sokoudjou
Middleweight bout: Matt Lindland vs. Vitor Belfort
Lightweight bout: Chris Horodecki vs. Dan Lauzon
Heavyweight bout: Paul Buentello vs. Kirill Sidelnikov

    HDNet matches
Light Heavyweight bout: Vladimir Matyushenko vs. Antonio Rogerio Nogueira
Welterweight bout: Jay Hieron vs. Jason High
Featherweight bout: Bao Quach vs. LC Davis
Featherweight bout: Albert Rios vs. Antonio Duarte
Welterweight bout: Brett Cooper vs. Patrick Speight

I can't pretend I know enough about the rest of the fighters to make predictions. This will be the first MMA event I've been to live, it's at the Honda Center in Anaheim. Tickets for upper-deck were $67 after fees, so a friend of mine and I are going.

For people who have been to MMA fights before - I'm hoping to be able to move down into better available seats - any idea on what the chances of being successful at that are? I'm super stoked to see Fedor in person, and out of his recent opponents I feel Arlovski has a better chance than most of actually making a fight out of it. My friend is a total MMA noob, but I showed him some Fedor highlight films online and stuff and he's pumped.

Any other SoCal people going to the event?

I recognize other names, but the only fight I care about is the main event. That being said, Fedor will sodomize Arlovski so badly it will be the only male/male anal penetration I'll enjoy watching.

Hey, the Belarussian King Leonidas Vampire Bulldog (whatever the fuck else they brand him with these days) will put up a fight on his way to being raped.

It'll be like The Shawshank Redemption.

Blah blah blah, picking against Fedor is dumb, blah blah blah. Yeah, I realize Andrei is the severe underdog here, but I believe Arlovski will knockout Fedor. Arlovski's boxing and athleticism is superior to anyone's in the Heavyweight division at the moment (excluding Brock's athleticism). Though for Arlovski to win, he needs to keep constant pressure on Fedor and not let him breathe in the stand up. If Arlovski gives Fedor space, he will get taken down and will get submitted.

Andrei has been working on his TD defense though, so I can see him stuffing a few first shots, but anything beyond that, he'll get tired and be taken down. But yeah, if this fight hits the mat at any point, it's over... But if Arlovski can keep it standing, he will out box Fedor, and maybe even knock him out.

Josh Barnett is and always has been better than Yvel.

Sokoudjou has no ground game, even though he's a judo blackbelt... Babalu will submit him, unless he eats one of Sokou's big right hands that knocked out Arona and lil' Nog.

Matt will win a boring decision. Vitor hasn't looked good in years.

Chris' gym is about 15 minutes away from my place, gotta root for the hometown kid. Though he's still a phenomenal lightweight with only one loss.

    I just like Paul.

If it's anything like the UFC in Montreal I went to... No, you won't. There were literally no seats available for rows and rows from what I could see. Although, that show was sold out, and this one isn't, so you might get lucky.

Yeah, that's what I'm hoping for - there's still tickets available at all pricing levels, and considering we'll be there for like 5 hours I hope we'll be able to finagle something better than what we paid for.

Also, regarding Arlovski - I do agree that he has very good boxing and pretty good takedown defense, but it's not like Fedor does many straight shoot takedowns. He usually waits til he stuns someone, even for a split second, with his standup and then gets the takedown. Something about how he uses his standup...he is just so pinpoint with his striking it seems like most people he fights fight scared and defensively. But hey, if you're right that's cool too - I'd gladly see the first Fedor loss in 9 years in person, I love me some Arlovski.

Even though there are several good names here I'm not overly excited for anything besides the main event. Babalu v sokoudjou may be interesting, barnett should win easy, lindland is boring, haven't really seen much of horodecki but I know he was pretty good in IFL, baby fedor Kirill is good as long as he doesn't get LNP'd, little nog hasn't been impressive as of late but this fight may actually be pretty good.

Edit: And if anyone is interested there are 2 documentaries, of sorts, for the main event fighters. Arlovski has a 24/7 style show called Arlovski 360 on his website and his youtube. Fox sports just had a docu of fedor last night, haven't yet watched it, but it's also on youtube.

Numbers just informed me that Chris Horodecki will not be fighting on the card this Saturday... What a let down. :/

I don't know why, call it a gut feeling. But I think Arlovski is winning to win. I'm almost definitely wrong, but I think he has a better shot than most people think. He definitely has a better shot than Sylvia did. Either way it's not a bad card at all there is some potential for a few genuinely entertaining fights.

I think Barnett is going to walk all over Yvel. I also think Belfort is going to take out Lindland. Shitty thing is I will be out of town this weekend in a cabin in the fucking woods. So I won't be able to order it. Which sucks.

Arlovski is an animal, but Fedor is a machine programmed to do one thing: win. I'm going to have to go with Fedor, just because he is brilliant when it comes to dismantling fighters, and his fight game is probably the closest thing to flawless this sport has.

You know Vitor won his last 3 fights.. Apperently he mawled terry martin in his last fight. I have to pick Vitor after the way he knocked out Wandy and the gash he did to Eastman's forehead.

If Fedor comes out strong like he did against Sylvia then he will have a chance to win.

    Fedor
    Vitor
    Barnett
    Babablou
    Kirill
