In this glitch, the award, if done properly was that you could duplicate salvage items. This was not anticipated by the developers. This is the definition of an exploit.

In this glitch, the award, if done properly was that you could (as NIN/, or /37NIN) survive longer amounts of time vs the hazards in-game. This was not anticipated and has been stated by the developers in later feedback. This -WAS- the definition of an exploit.
People found an unintended glitch that could work the game differently than it was intended. The mechanics were already available in FFXI without any need for client side changes. In this glitch, the award, if done properly, was that you could have a very low attack delay for 2handed weapons. All you had to do was disengage and reengage. This was not anticipated by the developers. This is the definition of an exploit, and, later patched.
