I find it hard to believe that FFXI is actually posting a net gain in subscriptions each quarter as it stands now. If you can prove me wrong, by all means do so. Granted, I don't know how RMT accounts would factor into those numbers.

I don't think SE has reported gains in membership for a good long while. I'd have to go back and look at the past 2-3 census reports, but iirc, they've consistently said the past few years that the game has plateaued around 500k characters. Pretty much just tells me the game isn't growing or dying. I could be wrong though. brb while looking up census info.

You want to know who I am? I'm a level 75 Samurai. It is my only 75 job. I've been playing for a year and a half. I'm the amateur, the grub crawling out of the woodwork. I still ws in a wyvern helm because, even though I have the Shura abj.... I wasn't able to upgrade it because I couldn't afford it the last time there was a cursed kabuto on the AH. I tp in Shura Haidate because my Sky LS is still wiping to more often than not Byakko. I love this game... and you know what? I remember very clearly the day that I read that Neo got his 5/5 usukane and thinking, "that guy's a fucking god. How does he do it?" I remember looking at Baudelaire's relic weapon standing outside of my Mog House a couple weeks ago and wondering the same thing.

But there's only really one thing that's important to me, and that is the fact that didn't lose a single cheating friend yesterday.

Well I mean the best evidence I have to stand on is observation on what's gone on around me and those I talk to so it's entirely plausible the numbers are growing and I just don't notice it. Says a lot to me though when someone who has been playing for over 4 years tells me they're kind of hoping they did get banned before checking because there's not much to stick around for.

This is where I have to agree on a lot of things, I know from very good friends, people I've known for years, that duped 5+ pieces, and managed a warning. While people in that same static got perma'd, even when they were only their for 1-2 of the drops. While another only got a warning, although from my understanding they only obtained 1 drop. I won't throw around any names, but they regular here more then I do so if they want to chime in then they by all rights can, but I won't "do it for the lulz" since they are friends. So while no one is innocent, as to who got what punishment, aside for some of the bigger perma bans it seems fairly random, in terms of who got what. That is the big issue with the whole banning more then anything else.

I don't know if that's fluffing the numbers or what, but it doesn't suggest a dying game at all at least at this point. We'll at least be reasonably sure when they release the census this year to see how it's impacted us as a whole.

this is a pretty good post. the game needs more players like this who play for fun and not for e-peen.

Seriously guys, this game will end some day and what will you have to show for it? 10 years of being pissed off about endgame shit or 10 years of enjoyment?

Most of you seem happy with what SE has done, but you guys seem to have missed something.

It took SE 3 months to start banning people. Why is that? That's 3 months of extra $$$ they got from those that got perma banned. 3 * 550 * $14~(assuming everyone has mule) = $23,100~. That's right, they managed to rake in an extra $23k before taking action.

So there's going to be another round of bans? When do you think that will be? Most likely a week into February, after they make extra $$$ from those they will ban.

SE's very sly and no one saw it coming.

Yeah I'm in same boat. I have a number of friends who say they want to quit, but won't unless something stupid like this happens to them. I don't find that decision very difficult to make myself, but others at this point just have a very hard time figuring out what to do with their time otherwise. Lots of reasons to think why that's so hard for some to figure out, but imo, it's just sheer laziness or avoidance of change in general.
