I think the statement 'has grown to over 500,000 users' on the latest census is telling. They are either fluffing the numbers or are stretching what it means to 'grow' since failing to add a significant number to your userbase over three years is anything but growth.

The last wave of bannings probably will not drop the next number to where the 500k estimate is an outright lie. However, FFXI like any MMORPG will never run out of ways to frustrate its playerbase, and if after three years you can't noticeably increase your subscriptions then the only way to go is down.

Yeah there's that and there's also SE might be happy with just having 500k users. I doubt that it's 500k subscriptions active all at once, but probably more along the lines of 500k subscriptions that were active at some point during the census counting period. Also have to take into account guys like me with 3 active subscriptions.

Personally, I prefer steady to insane growth. If SE manages to keep the active subscriptions steady around 500k, I think it's pretty safe to say the game isn't dying. 500k * $12/mo is still a crapload of money even if a lot of those accounts are only active for a month or two at a time. If even half of those are subscriptions that are active for the entire census period, then SE is hauling in $36 mil/year. Those aren't numbers that suggest the game is going away any time soon

3 months to do a search on Salvage/Nyzul logs? And they're still not done? I thought they said their tools automated these things.

You know nothing about this line of work (or any programming line) do you? You know how many fucking Salvage/Nyzul runs go on a day? You know how many MILLIONS of lines of code/logs that is to go through? Count back for the 1.5-2 years this exploit was abuse by these "I'm better than you but I got banned anyway" fuckers.
