My group did this twice, but only duping cells; never NMs. We all spoke in ls/party chat about it, and none of us were banned. So it's possible that they only banned people that duped actual drops (despite if you weren't the one to receive them).

Threads like this really annoy me more than anything -- All of the 'moral high ground' people always come out of the woodwork, to preach at us of lower moral caliber.

Yeah -- I duped in Salvage. When's the last time you went 4 months in SSR, going near daily, without a drop? I used it out of desperation, and I only ever got ONE drop from it, which I would have gotten anyway. Yeah, I used an exploit. Yeah, everyone here QQing used an exploit. SE gave us the shitty flawed system they did -- If they paid any attention to the userbase, they'd have known of the problem MUCH faster, and could have fixed it without all of this.




I can honestly say that I duped simply because of SSR. No other zone made me so angry, or disheartened me so much. If SE had given SSR more than 0.05% drop rates, I would have never even thought about duping like that.

Because perhaps people who don't assume they're above everyone else and take advantage of anything or anyone at the slightest chance are happy to finally see some retribution?

While I'm glad to see that SE did something about the issue, at the same time part of me feels it may be a little too harsh. I wish they would explain the determinants that let them reach their decisions on a case-by-case basis.

Needless to say, there was a whole lot of fail to go around this time.

It's pretty funny you can comment on us "moral high ground people", when it's not even being on a moral high road, it's the simple fact; You simply CAN'T justify cheating in a game. Especially when it's against the ToS to do so and get pissy when you get banned. Fact of the matter, if you cheated and got banned, you got banned...there's no justification of why you cheated, there's no way around the fact you broke ToS..what's done is done.

Oh and fyi, the reason Salvage gear is low drops is so SE can keep that gear rare, because is the salvage gear good? Yeah? When it becomes so common that everyone and their grandmama has a set, they would need to create a new set that surpasses it.

I've played since the PS2 release (March 23rd 2004) and have 0 GM warnings. There is 40mil in gil and another 60mil in sellables on my account, along with N.head and E.body abjurations. Didn't report this because it was too good an opportunity to waste.

In my opinion, my largest offense is merciless reselling on my rather infamous Rolanmart mule Mrt that makes sure no one ever gets a good deal on Garuda, bwahahahahaha.

Seriously though, if this is a perma my largest regret will be that I couldn't give out my stuff and didn't know to pass the abjurations before I went.

Well, a bit macabre of a comparison. Either way, even if moral properties don't objectively exist, most of us have innate common sense ideas as to what is quite obviously wrong or quite obviously right. Getting perma banned in this game is the ultimate retaliation possible. One would think it should be reserved for ultimate offenses. Similarly, less severe offenses should merit less severe consequences.

Stop being so black and white about morality. Salvage drop rates were horrible. And you actually did have to do work to pull the trick off. It's not as if something dropped and one person just clicked "dupe," and it was so. Most people didn't sell these drops, most people didn't get drops from this, and most people that did this didn't do it for a very long time. Quite a few of the people involved, I'm sure, didn't know or barely knew what was going on. It may have been wrong to dupe, but stop comparing it to commandeering overly high bank deposits or stealing another person's credit card info. If you wanna kick a man while he's down, it would probably be best if you questioned your own moral virtues instead.
