The petition won't do anything O.o I mean I can see why people would try. But SE has rules. They have a ToS. You agree to that ToS every time you log on. You're paying to RENT a character from them. You don't own it or have any legal rights to it. They can do what they want when they want to terminate the account that they own and are lending to you. Sucks, I know. But I don't see how a petition is gonna work :/

Maybe they will have a change of heart, unless theres a policy against having a heart. Just speak your mind and make sure they hear you, no matter how much they try to turn you away... you can send letters emails, even try to contact corporate. This isnt RMT and hardcore hacking cheating bastards that they are banning. Some of them are good people, friends, or innocent. Without us there is no job for them to go to everyday. What we think has to matter. If it doesnt change anything now, maybe in the future they will have better customer service and policies if they want to do business in america.

I was on the phone with one of their lowly shmucks and I asked for a supervisor, said supervisor does not have the resources to help you. So I asked for someone higher up, corporate. They said they dont have that information, all their corporate stuff is in japan and that all customer relations are delt through their customer service, yet customer service is not equipped to deal with anything cept fix your billing info so they can keep getting paid. Ill try and find corporate, cause if the complaints go beyond customer service it might hit a nerve.

The way to do it without logging off would require h2h'ing everything and using dusty potions for dear life - all for a frog with non-100%, level 15 drops. Currently you arent exploiting the system but simply doing things at a more efficient pace (Salvage is all about efficiency is it not?) and SE doesnt really have a problem with it.

How do you know SE doesn't have a problem with it? Maybe they don't know about it, like the dupe glitch. The frog's charm glitch made things a lot more efficient, but SE fixed that and we're back to wasting more time, no?

Logging off to pop F1 madame isnt even worth mentioning because not only does she not drop any 35s (35s are all that matter anyway) but her drops are mirrored on F4 frog at a 100% rate. Shes simply there to meet quota for F6 frog in most cases anyway.

While I agree with you (and I do all my zhay 15s with a very small group) some people in my group actually depended on 1st floor frog to complete their gear. And since it's a waste of 1500 AP to do a 15 Zhay run we usually do 1st floor frog for a chance at the 15s, since 35s are all that matter anyway.

The whole challenge-mode idea of beating a whole wing without using a cell sounds entertaining but in the end you really dont want to waste a ton of time for the "thrills" when you could simply just log off then on and collect your 1 15 drop (or 0 as usual).

Logging off is no different a strategy than zoning repeately imo.

Again, I have to agree with you on that, but seeing as how the game is designed SE would probably disagree. They seem to want to find more ways to waste time for us to grind so we can play forever.

IMO I believe SE did NOT intend logout as a strategy and thus it's a bug. It's just how I see it.

Makes me wonder if SE really even thought this through. I mean come on; banning people permantly from the game because of a flaw in the game that was exploited that was really their own fault. Honestly I believe people had a right to a certain degree to use this glitch in the game for a simple reason. Everyone at one point in playing this game has thought to themselves "Dammit getting <item> to drop takes a retardedly long time to drop." When you think about it, compared to friends that have played other MMOs FFXI is a game that takes a much longer time to get things done. SE claims that they wish for your rl not to be effected by the game but how many things in FFXI can you just log on for about 30 mins of free time and get done? Sure there are campaign battles or crafting but you won't get very far in those unless you spend an ass load of wasted time in doing them. I believe that because FFXI causes people to spend ennormous amounts of time to improve their characters that it causes people to easily forget about thier rl friends and family.

Even if you don't agree with me on that opinion I think that what SE could and should do is offer all those that were perm banned an option. They can come back to the game however they would lose the Salvage gear that was gained through the illegal method even if only 1 of the pieces of the final piece of gear was gained through the used glitch. I think it would be a reasonable compromise. Basicly give up the gear worked very hard on to gain or lose the character you put even more effort into making in itself.

I personally was not banned however several of my LS mates and online friends were banned and without them I don't really know why I would want to keep playing. I think because of SE rash actions they will likely see other core players quit the game because so many other core players were banned that we're bad people but just made a mistake and now they can't play the game together anymore.

I used to play about 3-5 hours per day, and much longer in the weekends, but when I don't have more than 1 hour to play I usually sit around @ WG and chat with people.

Exploiting the game's mechanics is not why people got banned. Don't bring up examples of exploiting to say there was some inconsistency. Snap out of denial.

People got banned for duping. It is as clear as day. Yes duping is a type of exploit, but what matters is that its the type of exploit that always got you banned.

SE doesn't care about some creative tactic, they care about duping. Not the same as logging out at a certain time or kiting monsters a certain way.

Not really ironclad. Depends on who feels like suing them and how much money they have. Pretty much applies to any form of a ToS. Yeah, we agree to the ToS every time we log in and play and "rent" our characters, but there's also an unwritten behavioral guideline that customers expect of service providers.

I'm not a legal expert, but I've filed legal complaints with service providers like the phone company when they tried to hide behind their ToS. End result was phone company relenting and giving me my way. All it took was a letter from my attorney explaining why I was pissed. Same explanations I gave to the reps on the phone, but was cockblocked the whole way. I have no idea where it'll go, but to some of the banned people, it might be worth going to pay an attorney $100-150 to send a letter to SE and see where it ends up if their account is that valuable to them. Just keep in mind that when doing so, the burden of proof is on you, not SE.
