also to those who dont know: lopping a hand off used to be a common punishment for theives, and still is in some areas, stop wooshing and get on to the good stuff
I think I got perma banned. Never made a GM call and one was never made on me in the 5 years I've been playing. I knowingly used the duping trick. Am I sorry for it, no. Am I mad about being banned, no. We knew what we were doing. Was it worth seeing 3 pairs of Morrigan's Slops completed in the same night, you bet your ass it was. Would I do it again, probably not. But you can't blame us for doing it. The real insanity is seeing people do Salvage day in and day out to have them post how they're 0/200+ on Powderkeg/Hammerblow/Dekka/QQ.
"Hi, my name is MrW and I'm a duper. It's been 3 months since my last duping."
Not sure if I'm gonna hang them up or reactivate one of my other 4 accounts from friends who quit.
People who duped alex are the reason the price is so exensive... and with them being completely useless I guess it doesn't matter at this point. Either way, I'm glad I knew about the bug when it was still in place because I knew I couldn't live with myself if I cheated to get ahead and got banned.
oh im back:
if you watch porn you have no morals
discuss.
I really didn't want to dwell too deep into this but...
Duping is one of the most severe offenses you can do in FFXI. Stuff people have been banned for years. It's not candy, it has a history that rivals at least treason. And it can fit in Black and White if the rules are followed.
You were either smart and knew this was coming or you were deluded(understandably so) and thought SE wouldn't ever punish ol' royal you. SE delivered in the end. The balls on them, eh?
The result is people rationalizing it. What's the surprise? This always happens for everything. Don't want to take responsibility for your gamble. Or you are just lashing out to the world. I mean you might even have even been addicted to this game. Blah blah it's not faiiiiiiiiir blah wah wah.
This isn't some moral triumph though. If you knew you could get away with it, I would advise to do it a hundred times over. But that was never the case. History of the game said that in a very clear and loud voice. You just gambled your account. Hey, maybe it was worth it. Some people even got away with it. For now anyway.
If you watch porn you should have your penis lopped off. imo.
Salvage drops are God aweful, I understand why people would dupe items in salvage (hell i tried salvage a couple of times, and I wanted to quit) but I also understand why SE would ban those people.
SE's stance against violators used to be a bit tolerant, but now, its just cleaning out style.
It's teaching the people who are not banned a valuable lesson; don't fuck with SE.
Stop complaining about the drop rate already. frog droprate is fine, arrapago droprate is fine, silver sea was shitty, bhaflau simply never popped anything but had a huge drop% once a rampart went active.
Either way you still wouldnt have cheated. guess what? Silver sea and bhaflau drop rates are being increased in an upcoming patch(they said this in the fanfest). Do you really think it's a coincidence that they decided the drop rate was too low after they realized a large portion of the drop they thought people were getting were actually duped instead?
The same with the alex. im betting they were looking at how many archaic gears/NM died on average per server before deciding on the 100k alex or whatever the # was and the duping artificially inflated the number due to the trick making the game treat each death as a seperate instance(in theory).
If they delete the duped items, Alex will be (or should be?) included. That means some alex in circulation would be deleted, really screwing over a lot of legit buyers. be careful asking for the duped items to be deleted because you just might get it and completely ream a lot of "legit" players who were simply bazaar shopping.
Can you tell me of situations where dupers weren't banned?SE's stance against violators used to be a bit tolerant, but now, its just cleaning out style.
That's 1/4 of Salvage. Of which they're gonna adjust.Originally Posted by MrW

I can accept the fact that i should be punished for using the trick and knew something was coming since the fanfest but to perma ban seems a bit harsh. Its like getting the death penalty for stealing.
Alot of good and bad people got banned from what i can see, some major lses who did alot of the salvage testing when it first came out so others could understand it better and major botting lses.
I had a very good friend tell me not to do it and in hind sight i should have listened to him but too late for that now.
what i regret most is i probably wont have the chance to leave the game properly and to divide up anything i had with some of my close friends.
No, but you did create an account just to get on and troll the people trying to make legitimate discussion on the topic. Why don't you choose to not post now rather than continue to look like an idiot? Also, my point was if you knew about the dupe you would have done it just the same rather than stop doing salvage.
Now, iirc Guild Wars did a huge sweeping ban like this for an exploit once and exempted the people who had reported the exploit shortly after or something. It was relatively funny then and it is now, that because of programmer error people are the ones being blamed. I wouldn't even say the kid got caught with his hand in the cookie jar. It's more, the kid got caught with the hand in the cookie jar that was hidden in his closet and his parents didn't know they put it there. >_>;
Obviously saying it's bad policy won't change it, but it's still kind of shocking that the player is being blamed. Shoot, in PSO there were a few patches to circumvent the duping too iirc, but SEGA was pretty terrible at maintenance for their online games so it was null in the end.
