Look, 3 things are required to commit a crime / fraudulent action:
1) Pressure/Incentive
2) Opportunity
3) Rationalization
You can argue all you want under rationalization, but Square Enix made 0 attempts to negate the other two, controllable circumstances regarding the duplication of salvage drops.
1) Pressure/incentive.
We have seen multiple posts across BG, as well as in this thread, regarding the drop rates in some salvage areas. Neosutra went 1/225 on Usukane Body, I'm still 0/225 on Ares Legs. I've only obtained 2 complete pieces in over a year of Salvage runs.
Square Enix made no attempts to alter drop rates, even after recognizing them as a problem.
2) Opportunity
The bug of duplicating items in a single alliance instanced zone has existed since the creation such zones. These types of zones can be traced back as far as assaults with the release of Treasures of Aht Urghan in 2006. This means that the opportunity has existed for approximately 2.5 years, unmitigated.
Square Enix made no attempts during this time to fix the code. Nor did their Quality Assurance team do an adequate job assessing the risks, problems, and errors that are prevalent in their code.
3) Morales
Question this all you want. Morales are uncontrollable by Square Enix. The other two are very controllable and could have been prevented. Any good company with decent controls over output can prevent breaches like this from occurring. I see no reason why Square Enix is allowed to continue to put subpar practices in action, and then take it out on the player base after they've harbored such actions.
You're right. FFXI has probably had the strictest policy on duping out of any MMO I've played. I remember when I played EQoA people used to dupe all kinds of stuff like CV's, Tunar, etc. Gms gave them a slap on the wrist, if that. WoW really hasn't seen a huge problem with duping to my knowledge, but I think the reason Square is so tough on duping is because of how the games ecnomy is soley controlled by the players, where as in games like WoW and EQ you could get lots of currency killing/NPCing stuff.
To all the people saying that who ever got banned deserved it, I'd like to say otherwise.
I knew about the dup glitch and I did it 4 times before it got fixed and I got a Nyzul
piece out of it, yet i left work to go home and check if I had gotten canned and
I didn't even get a letter from them, on the other hand my wife who didn't know anything
about the glitch nor was she ever a pt leader nor did she ever get a piece out of the whole thing
just got canned with a LM-17 she was in the same static as me, I always explained how it worked
I was always PT leader she was in the same 4 runs we tried this in, she never opened her mouth about it,
yet SE decides she gets the ban stick..... That is total and complete utter bullshit.
She's even on PS2, I use APRadar + windower to do my ENM hagun... WTF.... why didn't i get banned,
she absolutely did not deserve this.
Sorry about the format of this rant but i had to type it in Notepad cause boss keeps walking in on me...
Its the people that came here and tried to lord it over those that werent aware of this glitch just like the following :
Or this
And this one.
Someone should have taken you up on that bet.
Did it ever occur to you, they could have decided that it needs to be raised because its been brought to SEs attention before the duping went rampant? You can't just decide "Hey we'll raise drop rates tomorrow" they said themselves the whole team has to agree, and they COULD be watching Salvage data to see the rate people/what they kill/popular zone etc. and change drop rates on that data.
That could never be the case though, huh?
I've never participated in Salvage, though I knew about the glitch.
If SE took months to review this, only to permaban some people that previously had a clean record or got it autolotted to them, then I think it's just them trying to make an example. Unfortunately, since there were more than enough people willingly duping these over and over again, making an example out of minor abusers seems a bit over the top.
If SE had perhaps sent an email to whomever they suspected and ordered them to drop their items and accept a tempban, I think it would've gone over slightly better.
I'm sorry to anyone who lost their account unjustly, but for you major abusers? Not sorry.
If you're not cheating, you aren't trying!
Watch SE raise the drop rate now just to shit on the people that got banned
I would lol
You guys should be ashamed of yourselves.
....okay, I would've used the trick if I would've known about it. And I'd still have 0 completed pieces![]()
So all the people out there riding this forum on their white high horse can really honestly say you've never cheated? Taxes? Traffic? Retail Shopping? Cmon, its like masturbation. If you say you've never done it, you're a liar.
This thread is better served supporting the players in this. Pointing and laughing at high-caliber people and saying 'you got what you deserved' is like going years and never getting a Hecatomb Cap (you know who you are.)
I'm a firm supporter of disposing of blatant cheaters, but this was different, and everyone involved knows it. You grandstanders out there who say different were never around or don't know enough to make an informed decision. Best to support everyone and hope they all come back. If not, this game is dead.
I pay for her account. Its just fucked up...
They plan to.
Also, stop downplaying duping. It has always been severe, damn. It's not cookies. I don't think anyone has ever got away with it with a slap on the wrist. You knew this. Think it's stupid for them to punish it that hard? Well, all the more reason not to do it.
EDIT: Also:
hahaha legitimate discussion?troll the people trying to make legitimate discussion on the topic.
Where? Who?
Not on this page. Not from people like Miraun.
