Destinye.
Ask other mods on this forum. There was a thread about this when it was first discovered, ages ago, and the guy posted his GM conversation and everything from reporting it. Gave as many details as he could, etc, GM took the info.
Not to mention people here do have contacts with staffers and do get like, snippets of info here and there. They knew, they knew, they knew.
Now, when you know something has been reported and six months later the problem is still in place... it is a little conundrum, isn't it? It wasn't until people started reporting the same thing working in other instances that it became more apparent that there wasn't supposed to be some sort of trick. That was the point it started to spread and people yes, knew they were risking a lot. Prior to it being discovered in Nyzul and Sandworm, why couldn't there have been something. I mean, they originally had really bad cell drop rates and stuff, people wondered how they were really expected to do things within a time limit...
I dunno, mostly this post is some musing and conjecture, obviously, I don't know the answers here, I don't know why it took so long. It could be that SE didn't react until it became apparent it worked elsewhere and that alexandrite was coming more and more into demand... adding the sandworm sellables and all into the equation.
Stripping people of their gear and giving temp suspensions would have been precisely appropriate. While those who obtained sandworm items, and those who exploited alexandrite heavily(not just 1 or 2 times by default, and not people who were dragged into it just by being in the same LS) should be banned. They really got to look at what was exploited to decide a fair punishment. But they dont want to put in the time? Its fair to say that everyone is just wanting for both sides to accept responsibility, not just for SE to be one sided about it.
Seriously...can you read or do you just like to stand on your soapbox and shit up every thread that has any form of a moral debate in it? I'll make this easy for you:

Between here and the Odin thread where you blame everyone that chose to stay on the server they started on, I think you're either just flat fucking retarded, an attention whore, trying to increase your post count in any way you can or some horrible combination of all of the above. You alone have made up 4+ pages of this thread with nothing but your rhetorical/indisputable idiocy.Originally Posted by Qtipus
I never said the people that exploited it should have gotten off scot-free. I never implied it. I simply stated my opinion that ALL OF the blame SHOULD NOT be placed at the feet of the ones that made a pisspoor decision. The better way would have been a little more leniency. Perma-bans for some, but I seriously doubt 550 people used this exploit to a point to get that penalty. To me, SE simply didn't take in the entire scope of the situation.
Is it just me or does anyone else think Destinye has a bit of a chip on his/her shoulder? I mean christ for the past 130+ pages it's been him bitching at any soul who claims that the punishment was anything other than 100% awesomely-complete-and-due. There's jaded and then there's beyond, and it's funny but it seems they care a whole lot more than the majority of those who got the bant-stick. >_>;
Feels great now, sitting in whitegate listening to all that spam :D What's it feel like not being able to log on? no seriously does your heart pound with emotion? Do you feel enraged inside that you've been "unfairly" treated after paying subscription fees for years, and does it really piss you off to have all those years of work on your character just snatched away like a thief in the night and nothing you can do about it but bitch on a forum??
God I fucking hope so, it's fun watching you squirm and argue your completely useless points page after page lol.
Seeing as they dropped the original Alexandrite requirement because people clamored that it was "too much and would take years to get that amount with the low drop rates", it would raise eyebrows with people still saying 30k is too much, 2 (3-4?) mythics were completed pretty quickly. Unless I'm mistaken, the only way they changed Alexandrites aside the requirement was adding in those purses which had a bunch of them, but the drop rate on singles were still apparently pretty low and its been said even if you could buy from every server you'll still barely get enough alexandrites..so it could have been that which pushed them to finally act on it.
So maybe it's just me, but if it's been reported, why would people still abuse it? That's pretty much telling SE "hey ban me!" This is why I can't see there being an issue with SE's response time on this, because who's to say it didn't just take them awhile to debug it? I mean after 6+ years I can only assume the code is a lot more bigger/messier to parse and with the added fact that many many people do nyzul/salvage all day everyday on every server, it could have just taken them so long to go into action. No one that is off of the SE dev team can really say.
Uh, really ? You've got nothing better to do than sit here and patronize someone on a forum, who are you to talk lol. LOLICANSTILLLOGIN so? I've had more fun seeing the people who have ridden on the backs of some of those who got banned turn on them so quickly. I'm not arguing about what they did, it's just funny people think guys like Wafik didn't help with the current strats people use for salvage, limbus, etc. I've never seen so many useless fucks stab people who've helped further the game a lot more than they have.
Bro, you've really made your point in this thread being the top poster and all, but anything more is just worthless, he's gonna cry and bitch about being banned until he gets a life and finds something else to fullfill his needs, let's try and make that happen as soon as possible, while it's fun to watch the banned muppets rave on and on about how they are unfairly treated like we give a shit and like it's gonn amake any differnce, I think it's in their best interest to find another hobby, fuck they can take up knitting or some shit for all I care lol.
lol I'm in whitegate seeking a party my friend.
I dont think people used the dupe trick to sell salvage gear at all. If they did, it would be in logs and easily investigated. " mediocre-gil-drops-compared-to-sandworm in the royal painter escort quest? " I dont know what this is, but like I said. There was intentional duping of kc's and sandworm and gil and even alexandrite, and then there were good hearted people who felt like salvage rare/ex drop rate was too grueling and unfair. Its not hard to identify the 2 from logs. When I used this glitch, and purse dropped but no rare/ex, I didnt even lot purse and I didnt let anyone else lot.
a lot of people talk about salvage, nyzul, and sandworm but not much about the ashu talif.

Should just lock this thread. Half the people arguing don't know a lot of went on, and the other half has biased opinions.
Personally I see the reactions as showing the true colors of both sides of this. You see people who did it owning up, but wishing it hadn't been permanent. Yet on the other side, you see those who always hated them revealing what kind of "people" they truly are. They act like baboons hooping and hollering while shoving every bit of fecal matter they had saved up in their resentment into their keyboards hoping to hit the people they've never even met on the other end. All that's gonna end up is a really really stinky computer and you're still just a howling baboon while the people you haven't met will eventually just move on with their lives. Luckily most people are talking more civilly.
My personal opinion wavers between "It's mostly too harsh considering the evidence" and "Don't ban tarutaru" XD I don't get to play nearly as much so when I logged on and read that so many players got banned I was rather shocked. But it's not my place to judge those people on their actions since they already have been by SE.
