Did everyone who got temp/perma banned get a message on POL first?

Friend of mine used this in Nyzul while I was along for the ride, but we never got any drops from it. He logged on and was temp-banned for it.

Just checking to see if I can log onto friend list plus to see if I got the message from Playonline while I'm at work.

I'd like to hear about this as well.

No real way to justify cheating, but it leads me to try and answer one question and leads to another. If this many people were taking advantage of this exploit, shouldn't that at least send some message to SE about how unhappy people are with the salvage drop rate in general? Taking that into consideration, should that have been factored into determining the punishments?

I know SE has publicly stated in various interviews they plan on adjusting drop rates specifically in Bhaflau and SSR, so that at least tells me they've acknowledged player base complaints.

Not saying people are justified in any way for cheating, but from where I'm sitting, people are more encouraged to exploit things like this if conditions are shitty enough for them to even consider it and to that extent, SE is partly to blame.

I am fairly convinced now, seeing what has happened, that SE is ready to patch the drop rates and was waiting to do so until they could look through all their logs and ban those that used this exploit.

This is all supposition, of course, but it makes sense with their general MO. I bet we will see a patch for the drop rates no later than this March when they do the version update, if not sooner.

In fact, I honestly would not be surprised if the drop rate has NOT been adjusted yet purely BECAUSE of this dupe. When you see 1500 Ares's bodies walking around, it leads one to believe there is nothing wrong with the current drop rates.

Right, but now say if you figured out that you could dupe things, did it once, reported it, and never did it again, you could hypothetically be banned right now. By SE's logic, you'd be better off posting it everywhere and making it public because hey, they can't ban everyone! That's what makes no sense to me.

If a ls duped once then reported it it would be unlikely that they would get banned as they could claim it wasnt intentional and they had actively informed a GM and that contact will be logged.

I totally agree with this statement. The fact that SE would actually take the time to go through and ban people for this is proof positive that they intend to keep FFXI around a while. If they were planning on letting it all die, they simply wouldn't give a shit. The most amazing thing to come out of this from my perspective is that they actually have the capability and/or determination to go back and check /tells and shit from that long ago. Bans may be harsh, but they sure do make me laugh when I remember all those who criticized ppl who didn't know of the duping procedure as being noobs, or weak, or stupid. Have fun deciding what to do next, dupers! Offer to help you get subjob items still stands.

I'm on Friend List plus now and I have no message. I'm pretty sure I'll be getting a 72 Hour Ban though. I was part of a 1 Salvage Run that duped cells, got no other drops though. I didn't have any clue what was going on that time.

Couple weeks later, after we found out about the glitch, we were going to try and dupe some Nyzul Floor 100 Hats and never got any drops to dupe lol.

Most people probably found it while fighting a boss or something (someone died in another party, party leader disbanded alliance before mob died so they wouldnt hold up treasure pool, that person goes "oh wow i got both items too lol").

The only reason I can't see anyone doing this exploit accidentally is because you kind of can't accidentally go about doing this particular one. Something like accidentally falling off an airship pier and gaining 30 million gil a step, yeah that would be accidental..but this one? Not flying. You knew what was going on, and instead of leaving the run you continued it.

nope he's clean, he called me earlier. on the other hand i already had some bs warning on my account from something.

As stated above, my group found out about it accidently when the thf in the other party died on the boss at 30 seconds till zone and the alliance was disbanded. We did however use this trick once in ZR on purpose to make an extra pair of macha's feet (and no, im sorry I dont feel bad about it), so we deserve the temp ban.

However if it turns out to be a perma ban, then I would say its a bit too harsh, but whatever, Im not the game maker. Ill take my money and spend my time elsewhere. I havent determined wether its 3day or perma yet. Called SE and spend an hour on the phone for them to tell me my POLID, SSN, Credit card number, billing address, and character name wasnt enough info for them to release the status of the account (they wanted my registration code thats at home). Piss poor customer support.

If I write code and miss a security feature so that the program is vulnerable to an exploit -- which is doable by accident (let's say double clicking the buy now button makes you get it for free) I'm the one who is blamed/yelled at/told to fix it, and those people are more likely than not to keep their free purchases.

There is no victim to the "crime" committed by the Salvage exploit. In my opinion flaws in game design/code that players discover and abuse should never be held against them, and if so it should be a warning or a temporary suspense, definitely not perma.


Also, I didn't use the glitch so I'm pretty sure I didn't get hammered, I've been at school and haven't checked, just throwing out my opinion.
