My newest theory is that SE intentionally uses the same LM-17 code for temp and perm bans because they love reading these drama threads.
I cannot seriously believe that they couldn't bother to make the two codes different.... >_>;;;
The best thing to come out of this so far is getting a double drops and yelling BAN instead of DORP.
Reading is hard.
Edit: As for the difference between LM-11 and 17, it's not hard to figure out how it works; one of them they judge the crime to be heinous enough to warrant instant, not-even-worth-a-second-look, forevar permaban; the other one they have reason to suspect someone and thus suspend the account, and upon further review (which may have already happened by the time they enact the 17) decide that it is not to be unbanned. They mark the account as such and simply don't bother changing the actual flag code, because what's the point, you're locked out either way.
As many have posted, no one's 100% happy about people losing their work. They are happy, however, about the ones who came around acting like messianic figures because they knew of an exploit that no one else was "good enough" to find, and talking about how they were invincible.
It's not schadenfreude, it's karma. At least a few people came on to apologize to the community and their friends for putting them in the positions. The rest?

wow...was 14 pages long when I got on, and now 42...this is possibly one of the most popular threads in a while. Just wish that it was good news instead of sad news that was like that.
