As many have posted, no one's 100% happy about people losing their work. They are happy, however, about the ones who came around acting like messianic figures because they knew of an exploit that no one else was "good enough" to find, and talking about how they were invincible.

It's not schadenfreude, it's karma. At least a few people came on to apologize to the community and their friends for putting them in the positions. The rest?

Honestly I feel no remorse of pity whatsoever for these players that got banned. They cheated, knew that they cheated, got caught and got dealt with. It's amusing to see how many people here have openly said that they never would get caught like Niki for example and now he's probably not going to post here on these forums due to sheer embaressment.

I've had my character since December 14th, 2003 and I've kept her 100% clean and wide away from any of these exploits and cheats. Hell even the dalmy I got for my RDM was obtained legitly off another shell's wiped Nidhogg so there's that as well.

I want to say I'm sorry for the players who got banned by this but in reality I'm not. I'm just happy to know that a lot of dishonest people are now unable to log on.

I still think banning people over a salvage exploit while doing nothing about widespread windower usage is logically inconsistent, particularly since both of these things represent a fairly benign infraction against the TOS.

SE said multiple times they don't care about windower itself, as all it does is make the game Windowed, which is what SE's windowed mode does now, however people didn't switch over because SE's windowed mode lacks every plugin/scripts that people love to use, someone on Allah said people only use windower for drawdistance, which we can all safely say is a lie.

I still think banning people over a salvage exploit while doing nothing about widespread windower usage is logically inconsistent, particularly since both of these things represent a fairly benign infraction against the TOS. I think both are similar; windower usage is so prevalent because players are under a great deal of unfair duress to use it when the GUI is incapable of adequately handling gear swaps or until recently something as simple as checking an online source without logging off. You'd be faced with the same pressure in Salvage with the natural attrition that an LS suffers over a period of time when members decide the drop rate isn't worth their time and effort anymore.

I believe if a player is under a sufficient amount of this duress, it represents a failure of the games TOS ethics and it's own design more than the communities unscrupulousness in using unsanctioned 3rd party software or in this case, exploiting game mechanics.

Surely, people will defend windower usage much more than so-called salvage duping, but I think the same idea applies to any case where the player base does something counter to developer intentions. It would've been alot better for everyone involved if FFXI wasn't soulcrushing and flawed enough to make cheating so palatable.

I'm of the opinion that they are in the eyes of SE, in that both break the TOS. However, which is going to get you banned?
Windower- very unlikely.
Duping- very, very likely, as their track history shows.
I'm sure anyone that uses unofficial Windower knows full well that they're "breaking the rules" but SE doesn't really care about it, as far as we know.

Hey assholes. Windower/sneaky tactic/minor exploit/etc etc is not duping. Stop comparing them. Duping has always resulted in a perma ban. A lot of people are pretty lucky here.

You only think it's harsh because it's happening to you.

EDIT: And to be clear, I mean you won't get permabanned or at least history hasn't shown us you will unless under specific conditions. Duping on the hand has basically been the only thing more punished than RMT.
