Who from Odin got hit?
Yes, there is a disconnect. You don't seem to be reading my post. Stop with the fucking theorycraft. Root your arguments in reality, then we will talk about it.
I think instead of bans, SE should have taken each piece that was ill-gotten and changed the stats to have grossly negative hidden effects, like a morrigan's robe with a hidden and undisplayed effect of -75 magic attack
that way the duped pieces would be like poorly constructed chinese knock offs
Yeah, really. If I get banned, I would probably just replace all my FFXI time with Left 4 Dead and never touch another MMO. Same need for teamwork, more zombies.
And the main reason Windower isn't banned frequently is possibly because it's hard to find direct proof that a player is using it. A GM won't be able to jail someone because he has frequent equip swaps. On the other hand, Three separate "Player recieves ____" from one drop isn't that subtle on a chat log. You might get in trouble if you shout "I USE WINDOWER LOL" in whitegate, but most users are much smarter than that.
The punishment still seems harsh. Strip the items and temporarily ban them sounds much more reasonable. And in addition, punish them in other ways like take away some of their riches or gear. Perma-banning is basically like the death sentence.
Many of the people I know that have been banned are now one-time offenders. They have been playing since the start, and just one slip-up has crushed them with a hefty price. No slap on the wrist and no warning telling them to not do it again. While none of them should receive any empathy, I'll objectively say that there has to be another solution.
Humans make mistakes and do "immoral" things knowingly and unknowingly all the time. I don't think anyone can be a perfect little saint; I know I'm not. Given certain circumstance, I know I would fall trap to temptation. And I say this because I'm human: I'll make some bad moves. I can't say I've done anything drastic like cheat on my girlfriend, but I can say I've done a whole lot of stupid shit in my life. These guys here "exploited" and "cheated", but majority of us have done it some point in life.
If I were to draw a direct analogy, I'm sure plenty of us here can say that we've obtained something for free from the internet. If one day the authorities finally decide file-sharing and downloading is punishable by law, then should past offenders all be executed? Should they be slapped with a huge fine? Should all internet providers ban service for their household? Or should there be a cutoff point: enjoy the free ride while you could? People are literally "exploiting" the entertainment industry, and how is that any different from cheating the system? But, this isn't "moral 101"; my argument is about how they should be punished.
So we see opportunity, and we sometimes seize it. And until there's a direct consequence, we make the mistake to keep doing it... right or wrong. Can't blame people for being stupid. The glitch was there, and there were no consequences. That doesn't mean they should get away with it, and they definitely should pay the price. Just taking away everything is tad much. SE seriously needs to reconsider their punishment.
I just hope I can sway the argument for SE to rethink their solution. They probably don't truly read these threads, but if they really do, everyone who has something negative to say only reaffirms that SE is actually right. I know a lot of people feel they got what they deserved and with good reason. But as dumb as it sounds, I hope we can slowly evolve this thread. I hope people can come to terms, and try to understand that we all make mistakes and that their should be "reasonable" consequences. I emphasize "reasonable".
To be perfectly honest, I know I would have not posted anything, nor do I feel like I will have a huge influence. But this move by S-E has affected me directly. Leaders from my LS have been disbanded; maybe the LS will disband too. Also plenty of people that I enjoyed adventuring with are gone now; it was one of the last redeeming qualities I had for the game: playing the game with people I liked to hang out with. There's nothing cherishable to see people leave this way. There was no trial, no compromise. Just you die; say good-bye to the bad guy. No matter how wrong these "exploiters" were, it's a sad day to see people go out like this. It's not "reasonable" to just dictate what's to be done w/o consenting the community. SE made the mistake of not catching on to the glitch at start. The cheaters made the mistake to exploit it. We're all human, and in a perfect world, we just wouldn't be so dumb.
And nothing of value was lost.
You probably missed one of my posts, actually on 2nd page, where i say:
Yes, got 72 hours ban actually. I didn't read the first line of the topic because some1 contacted me on msn and said "hey you are in the list of perma bans" so i pointed it out immediately, but had not clear the list included the warn of 72hrs.
Hey Tubberz pay more attention you finger pointer lol
Wow this was better then the last Version Update. (from the entertainment view)
This has potential for the next Interview.
A lot of linkshells will be recruiting soon.
Good night everyone.

LMFAO @ knowing some of those banned people.
this is awesome and SE waited quietly and did a calculated pwning all at once.
Two people in my LS have been perma'd from just being in the party for one Salvage run, not having Alexandrite drops or any other drops or even knowing about the dupe exploit (I cottoned on after the boss dropping 3x Alex Bags, but didn't press it when was told was a bug). I was one, from it being my second day back from having restarted on the 23rd Nov. Other's who have duped multiple items already haven't been hit with any kind of banstick at all. Seems random as to whom got what.
I was just happy to have a weapon cell and an ability cell at the start of the run on Thf, didn't question anything after that. Then they fixed the dupe exploit and a few months later - bannernation. Oh well.. looks like time to find another game.
