Telemarketer/Mailer scams.

So i got a letter today from CRM Rewards Department, they gave me a pin number to identify myself and they actually got my name and address. They said they were trying to reach me with good news, and it's very important to call them at this number 1-800-449-3596. Some bitch named Lisa Eastwood asked to call. So I decided to google this suspicious letter, and a lot of people seemed to have been scammed by these fuckers already. They basically want to give you magazine subscriptions and get your debit card # and basically steal your info. So fair warning, if you see a CRM Rewards Department letter, throw it out. Kinda scary seeing this, i don't know how many other scams like this exist.

Anything else similar like this that BG has found??

I'm just surprised these guys haven't gotten a lawsuit or anything.

There's been shit going around for some malware called Antivirus Pro XP 2009. Some people have actually been fucking dumb enough to "buy" the "product." Apparently the contact number listed for the "company" was for someone who was completely oblivious as to what people were talking about. So even malware fuckers are in on this shit lol.

A similar thing happened to my roommate a couple of months ago. Ultimately, she had to threaten them with reporting them to the Better Business Bureau before they refunded the money they'd scammed and left her alone.

like a year or two ago was goin through job listings on yahoojobs or one of the online job boards and filled out something for account payable clerk or some stupid shit like that. Anyways they asked for name and address and email and all that shit. Next day i get an email saying that i was hired all i had to do was when i get checks mailed from them, go to bank cash it, keep 10% and send the rest to an address they would say to mail it to. I lol'd. Then day after that they sent me some stupid looking check air mailed. Idk you gotta be pretty dumb to fall for that, but a friend told me that one of his friends did fall for that once.

The other day I got a call from 617-245-9601 telling me about the Velveteen Rabbit movie thats coming out soon (I googled it, couldn't find shit). It smelled like a scam to me, so of course I didn't give out any info, but they didn't really ask for anything. They asked if I had heard of the movie and then offered to send me an e-mail with the preview (I told them I didn't have an e-mail). Then they asked if they could send me 2 free movies and I said no thanks. Then they asked if they could call me when the movie got into theatres in my area, I said no I'd see it in the newspapers. It was really weird, they weren't persistent or anything. I didn't try calling the number back, I might later.

I've been trying to clean up Antivirus XP 2008 or whatever off my parent's old computer and haven't had much luck, fuck that thing.

I've seen a couple of the checks people send, it's so retarded. My stepbrother got 2 of them for 4 or 5 grand a piece and thought he was actually gonna get the money.

This is what I used to get rid of Antivirus 2008. I basically ran the program in safe mode, you should also be able to manually remove the folder from the "My Computer/program files" section too, it normally appears under an odd name. (fddgdfg32432 or something to that effect.) Fair warning, the Antivirus will try to give you the coveted Microsoft blue screen during your scan. Just hit ESC or F8 (I think any key works really..) to return to your scan. You'll need to sit by your computer during the scan, as many fake blue screens will pop up. Sad thing is these can restart your computer and abort your scan if you don't close them.

I did this while watching a movie. Takes about two hours doing a full scan, but when I finished, the "warning" wallpaper the program gave me was gone, and my computer was back to normal. Hope this helps.

For me, only scam I got was one trying to claim to be a legit response to my vehicles' warranty having just expired. Funny, I don't own a vehicle, and the message went on wanting me to confirm information and everything. I'm on the fucking opt-out list Canada got set up recently, I should have reported the number for trying to find a loop-hole through the proper use of the list....
