Thief 3 - The Cradle level
ooohhhhh myyyy .. ... . .. .
Edited the OP and added a vid (the most important) "The Making Of," for those of you wondering why the fuck Silent Hill won by a landslide that and the lack of other options![]()
Resident Evil 1 - The freaking dog jumping through a window was so classic! Ever since that beginning scene I would get nervous if I heard any dog noises in the game. Also they did a great job of disbursing disturbing journal entries of the scientists in the mansion who were slowly becoming zombies.
Dino Crisis scared the living fuck out of me when the first one came out.
I remember walking down one of the first hallways and that raptor jumps through the glass.. FUCK I almost shat myself... and pretty much every scene where the trex randomly shows up. Fucking games.
I always ran out of ammo in Dino Crisis.
When I was like 8, I thought Doom was scary as shit. It wasn't the pixelated monsters as much as the notion behind the game: one guy, on Mars, spawn of hell... Wolfenstein 3D used to freak me out as well, I think only because it was one of the earliest first-person shooters and Nazis in my grill was a bit off-putting, especially in later levels when mobs get weird. Once again, I was probably 6 for Wolfenstein lol.
Man I always feel like I'm missing out in survival horror.
I'm twitchy and paranoid at the best of times so when Resi, SH, or whatever gets turned on it just ramp it up.
I turn into the equivalent of the old geezer in movies who walks around brandishing a fork babbling about things coming through walls and trying to stab anyone who gets close.
Seriously, I think every door is Resi style tumbler (a la dogs through the window) and it takes so long to walk down a corridor let along play the game so I just self everything as I never get anything done.
That said of the ones I have played/seen the SH series is by far the best as its main focus is mind-fuckery as opposed to tumblers like Resi.
Dead Space is pretty standard western 'Horror' bit of scene setting then lots of "Boo!" scares and things running past or coming through windows/vents/etc
Scariest part of Dead Space is playing it on the PC. Like trying to move a tank made of jelly through wet mud. Just horrible.
I voted RE because that was the first horror game I played and one I most enjoyed but Fatal Frame 2 scared me so bad I returned it
I wouldn't say Eternal Darkness was scary, but that game was all sortsa mind fuck and really messed around w/it. I remember those random times it looked like the GCN froze or shut off... and i actually restarted my system... or the times your character heads or body parts would just randomly fall off and you would be left w/ the game over screen. I still always love how they did the main lobby of the mansion (I think) and how one of the head statues would look at you as you moved around that room. One of the best is when you would see double of yourself... and your ghost clone killed you (lol).
Game deserves a different classification cause it wasn't "scary" per-say, but it was a great game. One of the games I wish they would make a a next gen sequel for... (w/reminds me... why are they making the next FF for only Wii... why!!!!)
I screamed like a little girl when a Hunter first jumped on me in L4D...Not sure if that counts?
Oh and I voted Fatal Frame. Youtube that whole game and see if you don't close the tab at least once. FF2, not 1.
L4D doesn't scare me at all, even in the dark with sound up personally.
It does catch you off guard when random shit comes from places you don't expect though lol
L4D is too fucking fun to be scared.
My personal scariest game was Silent Hill 3. I am too much of a pussy with horror games for some reason, but something about SH3 I could not stop playing, but I was in a constant state of "wtfwtfwtf HOAH FUCK wtfwtfwtf" The atmosphere of the game is so addicting but unnerving. There actually wasn't a lot of spots that freaked me out more than others, but in the mall I was running from those huge things with big ass arms, dodging and weaving thinking I was smooth as hell, then all of a sudden a fucking dog jumped me.
Pissed my pants.
