So like, I suddenly had a total revelation just now.

People at SE must read FFXI forums. I mean, not looking for proof of botters and hackers and crap, but actually just look through forums like everyone else. So there's a pretty damn good chance people who work at SE seen that original Dupe Fix thread, and saw the LM-17 thread and are probably rofling their socks off at this very thread.

Crazy theory, I know, but it's highly possible.

Although I must say, I am very suprised SE actually took action against this. I had hoped they would have; prayed even, but admittedly I ultimately /jawdropped at the news today. Its bitersweet in the end though for myself; I would have been more pleased with a few different methods in which the punishment be carried out; some examples being:

One time offender(accidental/[insert lame excuse here]): 72hr Temp ban
Multi offender with loot: 72hr Temp + removal of duped completed/incomplete equip with no regard for losses incurred.
    Multi offender+seller: Perma Ban

If you guys are only getting 72hr bans and you have completed peices with duped drops, 72hr temp ban is so lulz and does little for consolation of legit groups that are far from incompetant and have been doing salvage since the dawn of time; with but a fraction of your gear accumulation to show for it.
Maybe SE will restart up the GM inquisitions after the bans are lifted where you are verbally told to drop your Salvage pieces or face permabanstick.

Sounds sick and twisted.... right up SEs alley.

Someone just pointed out this thread to me for amusement, and it's awesome.

Just 1 curious thing though, all of the quotes contain at least one person who was being arrogant about whether the bans would be coming, except mine. Perhaps it doesn't show in that particular quote, but I was quite against the exploit and was hoping for the bans. :D

Score 1 for the good guys.

I'd prefer if they gave the armor some god awful stats and made it so that you wouldn't be able to take it off. Turning full Usu's into -1 Lizard Gear sounds fucking awesome.

There's no reason SE should have to do the ridiculous kind of legwork required to find in finite detail who sold what when how and what items were gained as a result of duping and what weren't...
well, to be fair SE's programming flaw regarding the exploit was actually seeded into the game; this is NOT something that these people can repeat. wheras gilselling would be completely unrelated in this scenario. which is why I think aside from people that actually had WEBSITES up wanting to SELL (duped) salvage drops should be the ones delt with most severely (perma) and those who didnt do that should be given a fair punishment that reflects the severity of their actions. (pigtails salvage service anyone lol...)

SE shouldn't have to do the legwork you're right. However, in the same breath, people also shouldn't be exploiting flaws. So to be fair; all of this legwork will have been done long before the bansticks have been given out which makes the entire notion that: having seperate punishments with varying degrees of severity is too much work and quite irrelevant, we hope.

On another note which, really, I've just come across which does nothing but promote a better in-depth look at "Varying degrees of punishment" I just want to go back and touchbase on something I mentioned earlierl; If anyone recalls one of those noted Pigtailed taru's (I honestly don't remember which one) had a salvage service going on posted on some website... It was basically stating that you could enter with their group and pay them a certain amount of gil for whatever drop you requested if it dropped. But it had one quirky sort of stipulation that I actually found odd enough to bring up to my Salvage crew. You were basically to logout once you entered the zone; no questions asked sort of deal and you would be told via mule or something if your item had dropped. They pawned it off easily ofc, stating they ran highly efficient runs and didnt want people getting in their way etc. Now that ofc is partially believable but on the other hand my group and I bantered over it like, well why not just have them not in party or whats the big harm having an extra hand with all those gears...? unless you're up to something funny right?

Mind you, at the time we were assuming things like PoS hacking or the "Standby button" trick; we had no clue It may include something of this magnitude. Getting back to the relevance: on why I'm slowly discovering that these LM-17s that are turning into perma's very rapidly permanents and potentially needing some slightly varying degrees of punishment due to severity of the cases... whats to say that some of these folks that are potentially getting perma banned aren't guilty of exploiting this in the sense that they truely were unaware that the drop they got was a dupe? I mean ofc the act of buying or selling r/ex might very well be against the ToS I really don't know or care but the issue herein is of pure relevance to simply this exploit.

    Tl;dr
Anyone getting banned or know someone who got banned (temp or perma) for unknowingly buying a duped drop?

Friend I went to high school with became a GM when they were looking for people able to speak German, anyways he called me today saying all his GM buddies been giggling intensely all day over all the people QQ'n on BG. He told me apparently someone called asking what kind of ban they got which turned into the person crying hysterically which leaded to extreme anger and yelling about having 6 relics...hmmm

Um...yes, they do. Most of them play the game too, but I'm willing to make an educated guess that 90% of them don't give a crap about a bunch of banned players unfortunately. What was your point?

Although I'm quite sure SE reps had to deal with aa massive amount of people flipping out and actual crying today; I think this post is either sarcasm, or a really, really poor attempt at lying. 1) GMs don't answer the phone 2) its likely the two sectors aren't even housed in the same building 3) GM's aren't allowed to surf the web or "BG" at work. 4) Mini seems fine judging by his post; Wopa seems like too much of a cuntrag to cry over it and theres nobody else matching the description lol

So henceforth, although it may be good for lulz, we won't be taking that post seriously ^^

I never said they were surfing. I never said my friend told me, "Yea this dude started crying on the phone to me about 6 relics." Friend told me it was more of a gossip thing going on there, which explains 1-4, I'm only relaying
