So does anyone else at all think that it's strange that, knowing about this for so long, SE has just sat by monitoring logs this whole time, waiting for players to fall into this trap, instead of fixing it right away?

SE has obviously known about this for at least long enough to do this 'monitoring'. So why not fix the problem, then go back and do the punishing, instead of leaving it out there as bait?

I think the key thing that irks me about this whole mess, bringing up Blizzard, is how both companies get around to hotfixes.

AFAIK, when a rather large bug comes around in WoW, you've got tons of people harping about it to Blizzard, regardless if it's good or bad. There's been some pretty noticeable things Bliz doesn't ever want to bother hotfixing, too (case in point: Toughness Tier 3).

In this case, nobody really wanted to fucking own up to it; yet at the same time, people wanna whine about only the bad issues (and just whine about things, in general).

I was always a big fan of the FF franchise, but couldn't stand FFXI. I have played more MMO's than I can count, and have also been banned more times than I can count =p, though not all were from MMO's, just most.

As a person who hasn't picked up the game in a year and some change, I agree that the punishment was way too severe, considering how long that exploit was in the game not fixed. A punishment is deserved, yes, but a permaban? Too much. 72+ hour suspension and taking away items should have been sufficient enough. SE's policies have been wishy washy and inconsistent since the dawn of FFXI.

I also learned that there are some massive fucking tools in this and the other HUEG thread. No one shot your puppy. Quit acting like all of end-game players did.

Tbh i hope it showballs into another shitstorm like the Pandemonium Warden endless fight as while i agree the ppl who cheated needed to be punished and mebbe temp banned for a few days the Permabans afink arent fair when it takes down ppl who are long time players and generally good ppl. Also has to be said that this was a fuck up on SE's Side that didnt involve 3rd pt software and to me it looks theyre just banning ppl because they got caught with their pants down on this issue for being too slow/lazy to fix this sooner.

It's really common for people who feel they're uncool to make jokes about it at other people's expense. Because they work around video games, there is a stigma about video games that makes some people instantly think of nerds who live in their basements, so in order to compensate for this image, people like the sort you see in G4 will put down that kind of image, it also helps reassure others that video games aren't just for nerds.

It's also kind of like how lots of guys constantly make gay jokes, especially when they're in situations that may be homoerotic. I think they call these yellow jokes.
