Thing that gets me is this big ban,..wasn't a thousand even, and around half will be playing in about a week. The dupe being an exploit, and an exploit is followed by bannings and suspensions this has always been the case especially in ffxi. Why are people throwing a fit when they have mentioned this time and time again. I remember sometime during NA release you could hit monsters through fences, and atop of things and they couldn't hit you SE released a quote from ToS basically stating exploiting a glitch equals account termination or suspension. Several incidents have been brought up since then and to say no one knew this was in ToS (doesn't matter because you clicked I agree) is bs.

I don't see Kotaku making any difference on this issue, and i'm laughing at people trying to bring the law into it to get their characters back. Goodluck you agreed to terms of service you cannot sue for any misconduct because they own your character! Infact, they even say that they can cancel your account for no reason what so ever lol.

They are throwing a fit because many have been knocked from their perch and can no longer lord over the "noobs" with their "leet skillz." And most are not (wo)man enough to admit they did anything wrong.

That's why the drama is so great; watching someone else's ego getting sundered like this is a very delightful treat. Especially when they've been notoriously haughty.

I'd say just be the bigger person and let it be, but this is the internet after all.

Really, it doesn't bother me at all that people who were abusing this glitch were banned. What bothers me is that people who didn't even know about it, (IE: the alliance leaders/LS leaders just did it without asking permission, resulting in a member new to the LS getting banned along with them? BS.) were still banned just the same. I know SE's investigations are a bunch of bull shit, as I've experienced them first hand before. That's the real problem here. They don't investigate in the sense we all think, they just do it to make examples. And what about people who discovered this by accident and didn't abuse it? Someone accidentally disbands before something drops and they get banned? It doesn't seem likely all those people just got off with a warning, after reading a lot of the stories. Sure, they could be lies, but I tend to trust the gamers more than I do SE's methods of investigation.

I doubt SE waited around on purpose.
Sure it took em too long to prolly find out bout it and fix it.
But then they did, reason they waitied 2 months is most likely b/c after they fixed,
thats when they went thru a years worth of logs and that took them 2 months to review, cuz they are understaffed.

If they only took 2 months to review a year's worth of logs, they aren't understaffed.

Screw you. Leo was awesome. That 32" TV on the high school like TV stand with 200x100 resolution... Oh I miss you, Screensavers. Sarah Lane sitting in the corner and Martin Sargent just rambling. Oh what a great show.

Did you read what Elmer wrote on the topic?
They don't have an endgame community forum like BG is for most of the non JP community. Their endgamers are more spread out over different small forums and blogs. In all those forums posting comments is totally anonymus, means there is only a number besides a comment. So there is not really a flow in the discussion. I could put in 10 comments and have a different number every time. And last but not least, most that have been banned would never openly admit it in an environment that generally looks down on every form of cheating.

I think its safe to assume that at least 1/3 if not more of the people banned are JP, but its not very likely that we will actually get names/servers.

Maybe they are or maybe they are not. But if they openly admit it, they would have to face their shame.

Don't you see, Kuya? It's all SE's fault that the people who got banned cheated. How were they supposed to know what they were doing was wrong?!

No, they are very much like us, just with them being anonymous, it's harder to find the JP Players that were affected versus finding an NA player affected. While we're all here "laughing" at those banned because of this, they are too. It's just we have faces to those that were banned because of how large these forums are.

The staff SE was having review these logs only speaks japanese and a little bit of mandarin, so only the JP players who had hard evidence against them were banned, while anyone else was just a guess to make it seem like they know what they're doing. xD

...The sad part is that this joke would actually explain a lot. >_>

Regardless of what anyone thinks, it's still irresponsible of a company to had left that glitch alone for as long as they did. I, as well as many other people I know reported this glitch a long ass time ago before it blew up in November. When you get the "everything is working as intended" from GM's of course people are going to abuse it. Not to say those who did aren't wrong, but SE's hands are no cleaner then theirs for piss-poor management. What SE did is just some bullshit attempt of trying to portray a sense of righteousness as if they're genuinely pissed and had no idea what was going on, taking zero responsibility.

They could just take every salvage related item from the recently banned. Screw going over the logs again and trying to pick out what was legit. Delete all salvage gear including alexandrite that was attained through normal means and through the glitch. Top it off with their temporary suspension. You cheated in salvage, you forfeit everything you gained from salvage. That's definitely more reasonable than banning the character for life. God forbid forgiveness and second chances.

I know some people only exploited the glitch in salvage alone. Some didn't even walk away with anything. Not to mention some were just gullible at the time and just made an honest mistake. You'll be amazed how many people don't have a shed of common sense. Still, we've had the advantage of 3 months to speculate and debate of what is now ethically "wrong". Of course, there are those who rubbed it in and caused a scene, but I'm going to say: it'd be narrow-minded to lump everyone together. The bastards can go screw themselves. But everyone should have an opportunity to receive a more proper punishment.

As for the WoTG investigation, we've only seen step one to my knowledge. If you exploited in those areas, you probably should just throw in the towel. I think that's a more difficult argument. Salvage pieces have no money value, and it actually costs the player to upgrade. Alexandrites can be sold however, but nothing compared to some of the WoTG gear.

The lesson to be learned: just say no to bugs.

They definitely knew about it, a long time ago. I've said this repeatedly.

What they choose to do with stuff reported to GMs and such, who knows. Why they chose to wait not until it was WIDELY used, but when it was further made public that some sort of exploit EXISTED that had more and more asking about it, etc, who knows.
