The only thing better than the fact they were banned, is that many of the self-absorbed endgame "elites" have effectively been cast down by SE. A lot of these players think FFXI revolves around endgame -- as many of the "the game is dead now without us" people stated -- and act like they are a privileged aristocracy just because they use bots or whatever to monopolize HNM camps and other stuff. And now with several banned permanently, it means they will be replaced by "noob" shells.

At this point reading BG posts just make me feel sad. 99% of the ppl who spam the last few ban threads are the 2nd class players who used to lurk in the shadow of BG forum stealing information posted by those who just got banned and now turned their back laughing at these ppl.

Yes there are some jerks who deserve perma ban. I do not agree with a lot of ppl on this forum (good example Lordwafik) but deep down inside I know these ppl do not deserve to have their years of effort taken away just because of one silly mistake. There are more suitable way to punish them and giving them a second chance does not mean SE tolerate cheating. Removing all their Salvage/NI gear + all gil/sellable items are more than enough to deliver the message, esp for those who have clean records.

Petition to SE is the last resort. For those who do get perma ban, you can either kiss your account goodbye and uninstall FFXI or try to show SE you have learned your mistake and will like to be given a second chance. It's not going to cost you anything. Remember SE do monitor public forum, I highly doubt they are not interested in finding out reaction of the playerbase afterall this is their first mass ban against real players (not RMT) and it has already given a very clear message, everyone who wants to use cheat is going to think twice now.

ditto, makes me feel a tad stupid, assumed it was a collection on if people had EVER get banned/reprimanded prior to today not just for people who did get reprimanded on the 22nd. But yeah doh stoooped!

Alla people coming to BG? BG *is* alla with better gear. I know there's a certain part of some people that recoil at the thought, and don't want to believe they are just as bad.

At any rate, I think a lot of the blowback from smug people, is from the years of "I'm elite, I'm good, and you're nothing" attitude that they get from high end-gamers. Sure, there are nice and helpful end-gamers. But there plenty of "Good luck doing endgame without me around, even though I personally didn't do jack squat to contribute to the community" still around. You can read their replies.

So, in conclusion, it's probably a good idea for both sides to start toning it down. Yes, one side is overly smug. Yes, the other side is overly bitter and angry. Both have had their say, so we can move past it. It's always easier to blame someone else for any perceived shortcomings.

Oh, and never suspended or banned. Had a talking to with a GM for a comment someone took offense to, but the GM was sympathetic. Just gave me a warning and sent me on my way.

The reaction? Considered awesome by many... and just as lawlable to JPNs as everyone else. Reading their posts and stuff linked/translated here will show you pretty much the exact same sentiments.
There's no poll or anything but if you take out people who are in affected LSes or personally know people banned, the reaction would be overwhelmingly in favor of the bannings. SE "monitoring" would see that people are very, very happy as a whole. A petition on this would be--well, a massive waste of time. I was going to say "biggest ever" waste of time, but that would be exaggerating... a little.
