You should already know that you'll be in for a perma if you dupe a KC, even if the people involved in Salvage/Worm/Nyzul duping got off more lightly. And good luck discovering a new way to dupe KCs in the first place, short of getting lucky with character restorations.

1. the people involved in the vast majority of isolated duping incidents have been banned; regardless of anyone's tired "cheating is cheating" philosophy, this situation was different as evident by the fact that literally hundreds of people thought they'd be safe.

2. it's not like there are duping tricks strewn across FFXI in the first place - even if another one did emerge later on, if SE had taken away any ill-gotten items this time around there'd be little point in trying to get away with it in the future.

1) Since when is roughly 60% the "vast" majority? out of the 900ish people hit by this, 400 were temp bans. Of course this is ignoring the people who got nothing but a letter warning as well.

2) The last few times exploits like this were found, do you know what SE did? They banned the people who used those exploits. So if those situations didn't set examples, why would this one be any different? Dupes especially are highly bannable exploits, one SE has a record of being severely harsh in regards to. So just taking away items and giving temp bans wouldn't be enough, especially when many of these items (Sandworm BC/Alex's) are items that could have been sold to legitimate players. So if a group repeatedly duped Sandworm drops, sold those items, then spent the money, what's left to take away?

SE has a long history of being excessively hard on people who exploit their game. Banning people over things like this is not new. And giving people slaps on the wrists wouldn't change a thing.

Oh, nonono, you misunderstand. In no way am I ever going to attempt it. I'm just making a statement that if I knew my punishment was 3 days only for it, I'd do it in a heartbeat... However, I'm not going to risk finding a way to do it. Far too much to lose and I don't even have awesome stuff like Adaberk or Ridill or anything.
