Top 10 is too many. But as far as what's been on TV:

40s-60s Looney Tunes is top. Bob McKimson/Bob Clampett are GODS.
    Samurai Jack
    Invader Zim
    Home Movies
    Sealab 2021
Boo Boo Runs Wild. John K. is one of the few guys left alive who really understands what cartoons can do :D

    Edit: Oops forgot Venture Brothers.

Sure, I didn't particularly care for this game, but it is clearly an 87. The production values, online gameplay, expansive world, and gamerankings say so. (Therefore, GTA4)

In other news: I should start website purely made of top 10 and 100 lists. I could make a fortune in ad revenue once people learn exactly how underrating and overrating their favorite shows.

I figured you spelled it right, but even when I looked it up yahoo couldn't find much lol. That show must've gone under the radar in my time. Finally saw a youtube video of it. But when I saw the ring in the video for it, it reminded me of another childhood great.

    Captain Planet!

I never realized that Whoopie Goldberg was one of the main stars of that show.

Now when people do their own top list are they saying their top favorite or the top "popular" or influential cartoons overall. Because if it is the later, I don't see how the last two people could leave The Simpsons out, even if they somehow don't like it.

I understand that not everybody likes it, which is why I was questioning which type of list people were making or where judging by, top of all time or their own personal favorites. Because I don't think there is any denying that it is not just one of the top cartoons of all time, but shows in general.

I would agree too, but I just dont enjoy the show, therefore my list was my favorites I guess you could say, although I included scooby doo because it was popular really, but as a kid growing up, I lived and breathed tmnt/transformers.

Probably due to the sheer 'sameness' most lists would had if they automagically put the Simpsons on their lists. I love the Simpsons but it missed my list probably because lately it's not been a show I absolutely have to watch. On a shelf next to each other, I'd pick every show on my list over The Simpsons. I really would.

While I agree that ordering the list made it an automatic fail, any list with
    16. The Maxx
on it can't be that bad.

Now if only they'd release it on DVD. >.<

Let's see...I'm probably forgetting something important, but this is my list:

    1. The Simpsons, no contest.
    2. Futurama
    3. South Park
    4. The Critic
    5. Hey Arnold
    6. Freakazoid!
    7. Ren & Stimpy
    8. Rocko's Modern Life
    9. Harvey Birdman
    10. Doug

Also I had a really hard time numbering these, as they're all entertaining in their own way. Honorable mentions:

    Death Note
    Clerks
    Family Guy
    American Dad
    Metalocalypse

You know I think Evangelion being rated higher than The Tick would be laughable. In the end what does it matter when they are completely different type of shows.

You wouldn't know that though because you've demonstrably never picked up a book nor educated yourself on the matter. Let me guess, overweight housewife?

you people are forgetting the greatness that was ducktales.

    I don't think there's a single 80s born kid that didn't watch that show.

I can't really make a list because I know damn well I'll be bias toward toward newer stuff or even anime. Over time, animation techniques have improved, voice acting has improved or at least recruited more people to keep you from recognizing one guy as a whole cast, and writing is most definitely the most subjective of all.

Some shows focus on simply storytelling, others attempt to integrate moral issues or life lessons for the sake of youth development. Now and then you'll get a mix, but since I'm not a kid anymore, I'm usually shooting more for story than catch-phrases or warm and fuzzy feelings. I almost dare say we're not as sensitive about what shows up in cartoons compared to the 80s or earlier.

With that in mind, I still think the industry could be better here in the states. Too many still equate cartoons as things just for kids (or the Adult Swim crap that's not even fit for human torture), and aside from a Pixar movie every year or two, it's rare for something to really stand out as a movie or series. Unfortunately, since that requires money, it's unlikely we'll see much beyond the usual financial powerhouses like Disney.
