    I couldn't disagree more.

    Cartoon from the 1930s

YouTube - Betty Boop Minnie the Moocher

Full musical score, bad acting, rotoscoped animation on the walrus was silky smooth, drawings are silly but identifiable and appealing..

    Cartoon from the 1940s

YouTube - Eatin' on the Cuff (Restored)

Same traditions, more solid appealing drawings, original music, better acting.

    1960s

    YouTube - Transylvania 6-5000

Loss of budget is obvious but still extremely strong design and lots of time spent showing off said design.

    1970s

    YouTube - Scooby's All Star Laff-a-lympics!

What's background art? What's appealing design? What's voice acting?

    1980s

    YouTube - MASK

Fuck it, let's just sell toys and make everything a crimefighting cartoon.

    1990s.

    YouTube - Captain Planet - 1x01 - A Hero For Earth Pt.1

Shit, the violence in crimefighting cartoons doesn't play anymore. Let's just sell toys with a 'message' then and forget about everything else.

Cartoons have not gotten better. They've had to become sitcoms to survive now that studios are spending fuck-all on production. They've also had to banish themselves to prime-time and 'adult' venues because nobody can figure out what kids like about cartoons. I like what Adult Swim has put out but I seriously pine for another golden age when cartoons could be violent AND sexy AND still appeal to kids.

As much as i loved the Simpson the number 1 spot should have been to looney toons.

    Edit:
Wtf no reboot, Rocko's modern life or Doug in there at least they didn't forget about freakazoid although i would have put it on the 20ish area along with Tiny toons.

Because a studio might not employ said techniques doesn't mean they haven't. At its core, drawing will be drawing, yeah, but how we get it from paper to the screen has improved exponentially. Can't really say I miss the days of grainy, poorly balanced audio in olden cartoons, too.

Regardless, I know we could do better. Sexy has its limits if you're still keeping it kid-friendly, but subtlety and innuendo can help fill in the gaps. The depth of violence is definitely diminished with a lack of blood, dismemberment, and fade to black techniques. To say stuff today is just a bunch of sitcoms is also kinda silly since that's basically stuff like Looney Toons or Scooby Doo to a T, complete with social commentary of their days. I know I favor long-term storylines, but I can appreciate an insular plot from time to time if it's concise enough.

Budgets screw us, ultimately. I would think cartoons cheaper to produce than live-action programming (Unless you're Tim and Eric. Barf.), but studios likely view it as risky in part due to the "kids only" stigma, but a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy in not trying never yielding success. Do the majority of Americans have the attention span for more than just sitcoms? My cynical side wants to say no. For now, I guess the best we can hope for are imports where all that's left to do is dubbing.

Go watch all of Transformers (G1 I am assuming?) then go watch B:TAS. Transformers aged terribly and is brainless toyporn. B:TAS still has some genuine good episodes with a lot of great ideas(good enough to be absorbed by comics). And no, the Transformer movie doesn't count, that one is actually watchable.

Now if you are talking Beast Wars or some of the newer iterations, I could see it. (Well, I'd disagree with anything but Beast Wars, but still)

A large portion of old cartoons sucked you nostalgic fucks. The main good ones were gargoyles for having an actual story, batman for creating the diniverse, and animaniacs/freakazoid for their humor. Futurama, birdman, critic, boondocks, and southpark all are dependent on your style of humor, but at least the first 2 of the 5 are pretty much perfect for the demographic that tended to watch it.

I realize how hypocritical my statement is, does not mean I am incorrect.

as they said in the description, Looney Toons wasn't actually a TV show, so that's probably why they didn't want to put it at #1.

It would be like saying Pixar Shorts is the #1 3D cartoon show.

I was debating iron man for the no.10 spot, but simpsons has been good to me over the years, so i would feel bad leaving it out.

Nobody who posts here saw looney tunes on anything other than the TV. Most if not all of us, including the likely 'author' of this list, weren't even born before they stopped making them altogether. Given that they're not feature-length by any means and that they adapted so well to a tv show puts them on the list.

I wasn't saying they should be on the list, I was just giving the probable reason why the author didn't want to put them at #1.

I'll give you a better reason. They work for IGN. This means they're 24 and a day and don't know anything about animation.
And another, for free: They're a terrible writer and had a deadline coming and they were on the hook for creating a story that would create millions of ad impressions without much effort.

Since there's no way i'd know what cartoons were actually the most popular among viewers out of all the ones listed in the Top 100 from IGN, i'll list my Top 10 Favorites.

    1. Bleach
    2. Naruto
    3. Ronin Warriors (Why the fuck hasn't anyone mentioned this?)
    4. X-Men
    5. Spider-Man
    6. Transformers (Even the new ones!)
    7. Rocko's Modern Life
    8. Aahhh!!! Real Monsters
    9. Family Guy
    10. American Dad

I would love to put TMNT on here, but I honestly can't remember watching it, ever. And I probably missed out.
