    Developer Interview: Salvage (from 2006/2007)

    It's a really old interview but I only got a copy of it recently and it was on the backburner until the recent bannings.

    I've never done Salvage but I was really surprised at how low the interviewer guessed the drop rates to be. As for the number of people completing armor, the numbers they talk about were based on how new the system was at that time compared to the drop rate. Obviously, it's been out for awhile now so the numbers have changed.

    This is only one part of the interview. There are four more mini interviews I'll do later. I'm kinda burnt out at the moment after this (it was 4 pages long) so I imagine it'll happen later this week or next.

    Q7: Are there any plans to add something like the currency from Dynamis or Ancient Beastcoins from Limbus? –Are there any plans to add something like the currency from Dynamis or Ancient Beastcoins from Limbus into Salvage?
    Hayashi: Do you mean something that would help you get the pieces of armor? Or another type of reward?
    –Right now, the only things that drop in Salvage are cells and armor. Dynamis has relic and currency. In Limbus, outside of collecting the Homam series, you can get Ancient Beastcoins. You can sell those and it becomes a reward for just participating. However, in Salvage, the drop rates are so low that you often leave empty-handed. So in that sense, I wonder if you plan on adding anything.
    Ito: We wouldn’t add something to just Salvage. Which is a mysterious thing to say… It would perhaps mix with other elements of the game.
    The most interesting part of the interview for me. It sounds like they were already planning mythics back in early '07.

    Interesting read. Not any surprising info by any means, but development interviews with intelligent people. Actually, the honesty about TH was amusing given the date of it... also, this was major warning in advance of very strangely different droprates.

    This I laughed at--
    –Then the probability of getting all of the pieces of a set is quite low.

    Ito: For an entire set, yes.

    –Maybe about one person per world?

    Hayashi: As a matter of course, at least that much.
    Aha! Justification for duping! Developers said they expected multiple people to have full sets, so surely it was cool for people to due--say--a full Usu set. I mean that's 3 people with a full set instead of 1! Just completing the wishes of the developers, yupyup.

    Hayashi: Unlike NMs, everyone has a chance to do Salvage. So players make a choice. They could go for NMs and cursed gear, they could go to Dynamis for Relics, or you could try for all of them.
    "Try for all" = Dupe and refuse to waste as much time in Salvage as you would at kings, apparently. Kudos to the people with legit full sets in HNMLSes though... even moreso now... that's a level of dedication I sure as hell don't have, no matter how much I might want a drop.

    Of course they were, they added the Nyzul & the Vigil Weqapons like the update after that interview.

    When it comes to the armor, we’ve tried to make it so that it’s not easier to get drops in one area, say Arrapago, than in another. However, the number of monsters who drop the armor is different in each zone. So, for example, there might be 1 in Arrapago but 2 in Zhayolm. The system is designed so that the total drop rate is the same for both areas. As for cells, we have a different design for each area so the developers had more freedom in the drop rate for those.

    Ok so basically, what I understand is that, say, if hikazu kabuto has 5% drop rate, the qq astrologer have 2.5% each and the QQTH have 1.25 % (i know dividing by 2 or 4 is not rigorous but an approximation). On the other hand, macha's crown should be the same droprate as hikazu hara-ate. Same for Bhaflau on the ramparts that pop the same item like 1F & 4F I guess.

    Ah guess you're right. I forgot they added the blank weapons about a year before the myriad arms of balrahn announcement.

    And they added the ones for WOTG jobs last March.
