Black Dynamite 2 shooting this year

A sequel to the brilliant Black Dynamite could be before the cameras by the end of the year, Michael Jai White has revealed...

Here’s some fine news to end the week. Appreciating that not enough human beings in the world have had the pleasure of Black Dynamite, one of the best comedies of recent times, the acclaimed parody has nonetheless built up an audience of advocates amongst those who’ve seen it.

It is, for the avoidance of doubt, very funny, and very brilliant.

Fortunately, as word of mouth about it continues to spread, it looks like we’re getting a sequel to the Blaxploitation spoof. The star of the film, Michael Jai White, has revealed that “we hope to shoot Black Dynamite 2 at the end of the year”. On top of that, the planned Cartoon Network spin-off series is still in development as well.

White was coy about what the exact plan was for Black Dynamite 2, save for a hint about possibly overhauling it for the 80s. It’s unknown yet, too, whether director Scott Sanders will return.

More news on Black Dynamite 2 as we get it. In the meantime, please go and watch Black Dynamite 1.

EXCLUSIVE: I’ve learned that Adult Swim has picked up a 10-episode second season of animated series Black Dynamite for a debut in late 2013 or early 2014. Based on the 2009 feature, Black Dynamite further chronicles the exploits of the central character — 1970s ex-CIA agent and full-time ladies man Black Dynamite — and his crew. Spearheaded by Carl Jones (The Boondocks), the series features the voices of Michael Jai White, Tommy Davidson, Kym Whitley and Byron Minns, all of whom starred in the feature. Black Dynamite is animated by Titmouse and produced by Ars Nova Entertainment. Jones, Jon Steingart and Jillian Apfelbaum executive produce.

The July series premiere of Black Dynamite won its Sunday 11:30 PM time period among adults 18-34, adults 18-24, men 18-34 and men 18-24 and tied as the No. 2 new series launch on Adult Swim in 2012 among adults 18-34. Adult Swim is finishing 2012 again ranked No. 1 among all basic cable networks for total dDay delivery of adults 18-34, adults 18-49, and men 18-34. Adult Swim also ranks No. 1 in primetime among adults 18-24, up +5% from last year.
