Considering Zect being Nagi's master being revealed a few chapters back (iirc it was the Rakan flashback), it's not that surprising

I guess...I passed it as a typical villain answer.

This week chapter was much better imo. It covered more than the first flashback.

woah! came across this week's raw while searching for the newest DtB manga, when did akimasu switch to telling negi's dad's story instead of the gay kid's?

now that's finally a guy with his dick intact, too bad that story wraps up or i would actually come back to reading this manga

So you don't read any battle manga/anime at all? Because pretty much every battle manga/anime has the same amount of "powerup fest" as Negima, lol. It's pretty much a staple of the genre.

i really don't read much manga or watch much anime any more, i guess you can say i've kinda grown out of it

DtB was one of the last one i really enjoyed, so i'm thinking thats why i'm still following the second season

the only anime/manga i'm still very excited about and looking forward to eagerly is the fate/SN ova, and to a much lesser extent the new eva movies

oh and i also read bakuman because i'm rather fascinated by how the manga industry works, having it dominate my entire childhood

Well, I love it for the same reason i loved DBZ. Actually, part of my enjoyment is the nostalgia is bring back. I think it's much better than most weekly shonen atm.

I don't know when you quit, but if you did before ala alba arc, you're missing out on some nice stuff imo (unless you absolutely hated the manga). In the worst case, the comedy should still make you laugh.

Yeah, I enjoy Bakuman too. But I have no idea how much of what they have in there is actually accurate. Manga aren't exactly perfect at displaying real life accurately. I mean, Eyeshield 21 rapes football, lol.

i'm sure they are dramatizing a lot of it, but having worked for a book publisher myself, the inside the industry info aren't too far out of the ballpark at all

i was especially impressed by that part where the editor tells the duo why they should not let reader feedback influence their writing, that's pretty much exactly what any good editor would give as a caution to rising new writers

The flashbacks are making me like Ala Rubra far more than Ala Alba.

That's because harem are always doomed right away. You know character development is going to be minimal. Ala Rubra has an interesting bunch for sure though, I can't wait to see the rest.

Probably rescuing Asuna and escaping to the old world, with Gatou getting mortally wounded and Albireo heavily damaged in the process.

I really appreciate that any period of dullness in this manga is almost always followed by a period of super awesome.

Not necessarily, at least relative to Akamatsu. He did pretty well with Love Hina, and I think that the core girls are fleshed out decently. I'm very interested to see what happens with Asuna in particular discovering her past.

I think the biggest appeal of Ala Rubra are the characters themselves. Remember Rakan and Nagi are "true idiots" and are utterly ridiculous as personalities.

Don't get me wrong, I love this manga (my favorite weekly...bi-weekly manga), however the harem setting still limit most relationship to a one sided love. that is in itself a limiting factor.

Romantic development is limited perhaps, but as we've already seen, the most limiting factor in that area is Negi's age. He's only got a one-track mind about his father. But we see that his psychological scars run deep, which is character development as well.

It's not just the romantic development that is limited when 95% of the cast are teenager girls who are in love with the main character. It will have an impact on many differents aspects, because character can't be as diversified

And yes, Negi's age is kinda limiting, but he still had a lot of development in overall. It could have been worse.
