Pactio activation requires magical energy from the mage. In the very beginning you see Negi burns out when he has to cast while his initial four pactios are activated at the same time.

It's mentioned by Eva that Negi and Konoka are among those lucky to be born with naturally high magical reserves (which is something you cannot increase through training very easily).

I imagine pactios with less talented mages (remember that by the festival fight Negi is stronger than most ordinary mages) couldn't be sustained nearly as long.

And Negi's line just in the last chapter that he'd win by "magical capacity". And considering his lineage he's certainly up there at the highest possible capacity in the universe.

Setsuna's second artifact is more disappointing than I expected, the whole costume change to her meido-nekomimi from mahora tournament arc is meh at best, but maybe it's just my katana fetish talking

Kaede's on the other hand, was more awesome than I thought it would be, the whole infinite space part working as a defensive barrier and arsenal storage is pretty awesome, remind me of Shana's cape, without the tsundere bitch wearing it.

With the magus of the beginning showing up though.... RIP Jack Rakan I guess.

It's rare I say that, but it doesnt feel like much happened in the last chapter. "Asuna" part is probably going to lead to something interesting eventually, and last page was unexpected, but meh..it was missing something.

Well the demons were immune to most forms of magic, right? Yue knew that via artifact and used a different form and then Mana and whoever that other girl is use different forms of magic as their main attacks anyway.

An army in this circumstance is strong through numbers/coordination, not individual power/adaptation (since they seem to be missing any real commander). And it's also pretty normal for them to be fodder in this type of story, lol.

I liked the last bit of this chapter, the rest was average.
