I still don't get the mechanic behind Evangeline's seal. It's started off as delinquent binding seal enhanced by the Mahora Tree, but as the overall power chart is fleshed out, I can't help but thinking that the only reason she's there is out of her own volition.

Nagi's curse might have been strong enough to bind Evangeline for many years. He was the most powerful mage afterall.

At this point, it's obvious she stay of her own volition though. She said she needed Negi's blood to break the curse, and it's not the opportunities that were lacking. I mean, she even drank his blood during the training. However, she still need Negi to leave the school (unless they use the loop hole again, or she kept some blood)




What make no sense is Negi beating her early. No matter how strong the binding spell was, and how powerful Asuna's magic cancel was, the fight made her look reaaaally weak.

I think it's just Ken deciding that Eva would be cooler as a powerful badass and ignoring how he first portrayed her. Besides, Eva did freeze Asuna in a block of ice later on, magic cancel or not.

This week chapter was pretty damn good. Not so much happened, but it was a nice way to set thing up for the final battle. Next week should be sweet too.

The real answer: Manga started as Love Hina + Harry Potter cuz that's what his editors wanted.

Then Ken slowly morphed the manga to what he originally envisioned, a coming of age magic & fighting epic. And he gave Eva some power boosts to compensate.

I mean that night when the forcefield goes down she was supposed to have full powers and Negi pot-shotted her and "beat her." There is no rightful way he could ever do that with the current estimation of her full power. She's Rakan level and Negi couldn't make a dent in Rakan with a way more crazy pot-shot(s) using the Thousand Bolts Complexio or the Duplex Complexio.

I can't imagine her truly being at full FULL power while at school. She'd most likely be able to break out at some point if that was the case. Then again, things are weird since Rakan and Nagi supposedly fought to a draw but Nagi is also a whole lot stronger than him, heh.

I'm satisfied calling her "full power" in the early arcs to just mean the top power she's able to accomplish on school property.

I remember it saying so. Of course it doesn't make sense, but again, it's something that got retconned.

And how do we know that Nagi was stronger than Rakan? We know was they were "eternal rivals" but that Nagi defeated the First Mage and Rakan lost his arms to him... But Rakan also had no chance against that due to the Lifemaker bullshit.

They said they fought many time, and the number of win on each side is a tie...or something like that (I think it was during Rakan's movie).

Yeah, I suppose, I was mostly just taking into account that when shit got real serious back in that war Nagi could do more, which in the end makes him stronger.

But if Nagi and Rakan are even and Eva is right up there, it makes no sense for Eva to really be perma-stuck in Mahora. Though I guess you can make some argument that the magical nature of the school is what does it, or something. Or you go back to the argument that Eva is actually there by choice of some nature and her talk of wanting out is just a regular complaint like people complaining about their jobs but still choosing to go to work them for years.

Really I think what makes the most sense is that Eva is "stuck" somewhat by choice. Being stuck there gives her freedom of persecution at the least, which after 600 years and numerous wars she may seek greatly. We know she's isn't actually evil...or she's incredibly evil, depending on if they pull a "she's the final boss" on us, but I don't like that twist. My understanding of Eva is that she got shit for being a vampire, it forced her to be seen as evil, she acted accordingly for a while but really she's not a bad person.

Either way, I'm pretty sure the end result is that Eva is going to have a hand in everything for the rest of the story. I like that.
