Totally agree. The whole situation just shows how awesome the writing is. If Negi had been fine, it would have led up to a more or less predictable situation where he defeats earth at great cost and then gets facerolled by the back ups. After that it would have either been superpowered evil side, big damn heroes by somebody like Takahata, or straight deus ex machina. Negi getting messed up forced the B-D teams and half of the A team (Setsuna, Ku, Kaede, Mana = A team) to rely on their own powers to seal the deal. AND IT WORKED...if they had only accounted for unknown unknowns.

That whole part where the wind fate more or less copy all negi's shit is kinda bullshit considering both the magia erebea duplex complexio mastery and the titanokton was supposed to be unique to negi. Though I supposed it could just be the application of high level wind magic at that tier being more or less the same for the most efficient effect, still though between his lightning form and the giant lance, it felt kinda unoriginal to say the least.

We don't even know where these Fates come from or what kind of power they have, there might be an explanation (hell, they could be Doll animated by Eva for all we know). That said, I was simply under the impression it came from the elemental affinities more than magia erebea...it's bound to be similar to Negi's power.

Anyway, it's not like the magic system or power level were important, they just play it out like a RPG.

I am greatly pleased by this chapter. I love it when characters go murder mode when a loved one is threatened or hurt in this series. I think my favorite was when the gang was escaping the palace party and one of the guards nabs Konoka. Setsuna gets this look like "Mutha fucka you just made your LAST MISTAKE." I like to think the only reason she didn't kill him is cuz she didn't wanna get blood all over Kono's nice dress.

I'm fine with that power up, it's a reasonable progress considering the lore we know so far. It's not like Bleach where they come out of nowhere and mean nothing.

^ Pretty much. It was a logical power up not some bullshit I UNLOCKED HIDDEN POWERS NOW YOU SHALL FACE ME IN MY TRUE FORM. Also it's not as if his power up doesn't come at a cost, they hinted at it at the chapter saying that he's more like eva now so how human does it make him still? There's a lot to go on about the effects of ME and what will happen to him now.

Basically Magia Erebea transform him into a full demon. It's hinted on Eva's backstory that her transformation into a Shinsou wasn't via turning, it was instead through a magical ritual, so I'd imagine that's what it meant when he become like Eva. It's already hinted that the usage of Magia Erebea give him demonic trait which plot device'd Kurt to be able to kick his ass on the ground that Shinmeiryuu is designed to combat demons. In this form now, he just basically abandon his humanity so that he can fight at the same level of Fate.

So yeah, this series should now be called Maou Sensei Negima.

That's pretty much what I was thinking. If Eva was transformed into a vampire, it should be possible for anyone to go through the same magical transformation (or at least, something similar). I wonder what the drawback will be though..if there is one.

Akamtasu has been very good about making the power-ups logical and well-planned. Magia Ereba's basic form is limited first by how powerful the mage is. Negi only got so powerful with it because he mastered a top-tier spell like the Thousand Bolts to arm with.

Duplex Complexio was a logical extension based on mastery over Ereba. Absorption Circle is limited by the difficulty of the setup (drawing the circle, the need for an enemy to fire an attack worth absorbing, etc.) In both of these cases it took Negi's intellect and ingenuity to find a way to refine Ereba.

My problem with becoming non-human is that it was basically "You want more power? Turn into [insert random magical creature]!" Just treads way too close to "Not powerful enough? Here's a new Sharingan power!" Plus it removes the main drawback of the initial powerup and turns it into a strength. Again I'm willing to cut Ken more slack than Kishimoto and Kubo because the pacing of the arc would make it really hard to do better than this, but it still pales in comparison to how he's dealt with power level gaps.

And Eva said that she wasn't very powerful at the start.
