Okay, this clears some things up, maybe.

So the movie is supposed to be an alternate ending from here on.

That doesn't mean that the manga is guaranteed to end immediately.

It could have several more arcs onto it from here on out to clear things up, for all we know.

That is my hope, and certainly how things sounded after this last chapter...we'll see.

I don't see how they could make serveral more arc with the current story. Nearly everything was covered already, and all there is left is the final encounter with the whole world helping out.

was expecting something like that kind of divergent, but yeah, maybe it'd just go back to slice of life until they graduate from mahora...

Washi Blog did a nice write up on the movie.
There was an opening screening event a couple of days ago for the Hayate no Gotoku and Negima movies, which had a big turnout. The bad news is that there is quote a bit of negative commentary slung at the Negima movie from attendees. The Hayate no Gotoku movie as described as about as entertaining as expected, and was 60 minutes long. The Negima movie was 45 minutes long, and included some unfinished/shortcutted parts, particularly a scene at the end where the screen fades to white and there are only sound effects. One comment said that Ken Akamatsu should severe his union with studio Shaft straight away (which he should have done a long time ago, in my opinion). The ‘movie’ had 28 animation directors, which in this case indicates a messed schedule. We even heard from one of the animators a while back that he was shocked that they were still doing drawings this close to the opening date.

Most of the comments were less extreme but there was a general sense of disappointment, and many comments that said the plot was hard to follow, even though they had read the manga!. This echoes Ken Akamatsu’s own concerns, which he tweeted last week after seeing the final version – that parts of the original screenplay had been taken out (most likely because SHAFT’s interminable mis-management meant they didn’t have the time to complete all the cuts), which he felt made the story hard to follow as intended. He urged viewers to consider that important explanatory scenes were missing when they saw the movie (a way of saying “don’t blame me if it’s confusing” – and fair enough too!). Although he did praise the action sequences at least.

Apparently, even the pamphlet for the movie wasn’t ready for the opening.

As a Negima fan, this is pretty disappointing. Although I had a bad vibe about this movie’s production for the last few months, it doesn’t really feel like this is worth calling a movie. They should have just done more OVAs. In any case, this is yet another example of the chaos that is studio Shaft’s schedule. While their best animators were working extensively on the Katte ni Kaizou OVAs, the Negima movie was being neglected. Still, as usual, I guess they’ll finish it for the Blu-rays.
I really hope Kizumonogatari doesn't suffer the same fate.

This is what Shaft does. This is what Shaft is. Don't worry, it'll be finished up in time to sell it on blu-ray. Probably.

Negi proposes a pactio, with Ayaka, who ends up reversing the process, and Negi gets the card.

Last two chapters have been good on comedy, especially this weeks, and I thought the above spoiler was hilarious(need to like Ayaka antics though). I wonder what Fate thinks the true worth of the card is.

I don't know, I found negima to be rather weak over the last few months. I miss the adventure and training from the beginning of the last arc.

I thought the Fate showdown was really weak, especially with a) how Magia Erebra's soul encroachment was dealt with, b) Fate somehow being able to keep up with Duplex Thousand Bolts, c) Fate's heel-face-turn

Waiting to see what happens with the One Mage reveal, but as of right now I think the manga hit its peak around the Rakan fight. The Ereba training gave a lot of character depth to Negi and moved him beyond someone simply chasing his father. The Rakan fight itself simply *felt* epic, both mechanically and from a storyline viewpoint.

And I also think that the Ako-Nagi relationship was the most well developed in the series. Pretty much every girl except her and Honya can be characterized as tsundere except her. He moved away from the original concept of Negima because it was just Love Hina all over, and that's really is what it feels like reading the latest chapters.

Fate's harem already gave the viewer hint that he wasnt really evil, so him changing sided wasnt that surprising. As for the fight itself, I don't know, I always expected them to fight on even ground

It's not about evil. One of the first main themes of the manga from the very start was that everyone is tainted, everyone is muddied because living means committing evil.

It was about conviction though. Just like Chao was committed to bringing about her new future, Negi committed to protecting his world regardless of the calamities Chao was trying to prevent.

It was not about Fate being a bad guy but about his conviction to the cause of CE

If Negi was right and there was another way to save everyone, his conviction were meaningless. Because he knew Negi wasn't lying, his conviction were obviously not that good, he just wanted the fight.
