I've been cheering for the immortal pair ending since his transformation into a shinso in the magia erebea was implied, so I'm quite biased. But in all fairness, the way he lived his childhood, I don't think he would want to wish that fate on anyone else. Beside, 2 of the world's greatest magi ought to be able to figure out the conundrum if it ever comes to that, or at least have a lot of fun trying.

It would definitively be a popular choice if they take that route. Evangeline scored 2nd in popularity contests during the whole manga, and I don't know many reader who hate her.

I personally would be happy with this ending, and it could works, but it would still surprise me if Akamatsu decides to go that way.

Nah, Akamatsu turned Eva into a dimensional traveler seeking for a single version of Nagi, so I doubt it'd ever go to that route

I still think the idea was fine, I just don't understand the need to introduce the inter dimensional travel. They should have went for a single timeline with shared memories (dream) like stein;gate, and leave it at this.

It's sad to see the manga hit it's lowest point, right as it ends. Maybe, after it has ended, the real reason it ended so fast can be hinted at, since all contracts will be fulfilled, and everyone can move on.

I wouldn't say lowest, there has been quite a few terrible moment that made me rage more than this. Most of them were early in the story however.

the series was pretty bad until the kyoto arc

then it started to heavily adopt shounen element with the introduction of fate, training with eva, and just actions in general.

Pretty much. Excluding the 5 chapters in the library, pre Kioto shit was garbage in my opinion.


After kyoto, we had a last shitty mini arc with the pervert magician demon who kidnapped the girls, but everything else after was fine.

He started out as a hardcore doujin artist. He's not afraid to do that, it has more to do with censorship regulation as this is a mainstream manga and he already has a reputation for gratuity.

Negi didn't know the side effects when he transformed, he might still be able to age normally despite being a magical monster like Eva.

Knowledge isn't a part of it, what's relevant is that Albireo mentions that Negi may or may not age a few more years before he becomes ageless. We don't know which happened.

You have this perverted old sadist mentor, and an innocent 10 years old boy. I'm sure doujin artists have no issue with that, but i sincerely doubt it's the kind of relationship Akamatsu is aiming for. It would give off a weird vibe at the very end.

But beneath that, you also sometimes get the vulnerable picture of Eva that show she's a girl that is burdened by a curse and was deprived of her childhood and a chance at a normal life.

At which point Negi fell in love with her? Why her instead of another girl he spent more time with? etc...

When you start thinking like that, I find it very hard to consider Yue as a likely candidate, even if she would be perfectly fine for the role.

I don't mean to imply she's a better front runner than Nodoka, I'm tossing it out because I'm exploring what Asuna could mean when she said "They're alike when you think about it."

What I'm saying is that we had similar foreshadowings for many girls in the classes, and because of that, they are pretty much on even ground when it come to "potential candidates".

That's also why I think the final decision will be taken on a more fundamental level (unrelated childhood friend, main sidekick, or the first love declaration) rather than around specific details or events, since it would be hard to differentiate the them on this alone.

I don't disagree with anything you said about the girls having some potential for X or Y reasons (in every case, it's specifically why they are candidates), I'm simply downplaying the importance of these scenes.

I wouldn't say she is burdened by the curse anymore. It's pretty clear she is happy with her current life (even in 130 years), and while she had it rough, she also did nasty things and need to redeem herself.

Seriously, I really can't see any fucking reason why it comes down to this, the finale of the mundus magicus arc was so good and pretty much set up the stage for the final arc that it was guaranteed that we'd get one last final epic battle to a likely bittersweet conclusion to Negi's journey to search for Nagi alongside of proof that he had surpassed his father.

Why couldn't we have that instead of this shit? ; ;

For the same reason I can't have Megaman Legend 3, Darker Than Black 3rd season, a proper ending to Xenosaga/Xenogears, Code Geass 2..etc.
Every time I get invested in a story that isn't completed, someone is trying to make my life miserable

I really wouldn't blame her for it, considering she had to deal with fucking high tension middle school girls years after years before Negi comes around and give her something actually interesting to do.

Beside, despite all of the things she may have claimed to be responsible of doing, she seem to do most of her bad shit in self defense only, i seem to remember the explanation on the cosmic catastrophe spell on the backside of the bound volume to mention her only using the finishing touch to destroy the opponent only if they're intent to kill her. And by the way the Averruncus in the finale of the mundus magicus arc reacted to her, it appears that she never really did go balls out on her full power even in the past.
