It's not so much that he beat rankan, but got a huge power upgrade in a short time (1 month). It almost make every other power upgrade insignificant in term of raw power.

Negi's trap card were sweet, but I hope this fight is over....(I'm pretty sure is). I'm glad he didn't win this with brute strength thought...it was a clever way to uses his power unlike most shonen, where people always hold back for no fucking reason.

Holy %$#@. This is how a shonen fighting manga SHOULD be. This is some great stuff. This is what I've always enjoyed about Negi's character, there may be massive asspull moves but they're reasonable -- he's thinking and planning ahead, using his intellect and gift for magical theory. It really beats the "MY HEART IS PURER MY POWAR IS MOOR" style of asspulling. I was actually really psyched reading this chapter. Good show, Ken.

Yeah. Like I said earlier, he actually had a good reason to not go all out right away. He used his first SSJ form to draw the circle and second form to trick Rankan into going all out on him. If Negi went all out right away, Rankan would have raped him before he could set up the trap.

Unlike most shonen, Negi didn't get a sudden power upgrade. He had it before the fight, and used it in a clever way to win it.

Also, what happened to Dark Negi? Did he convert his darkness power to lightning completely during his training, or he can uses both now and picked thunder for this fight.

Kinda suck if Thunder negi is the default mode now...I loved the darkness theme more.

Well, I guess the power up does make sense now. Negi could already blast a huge rock on Darkness mode. If he converted the technique to something more appropriate for him, I guess it would explain why he is so powerful now.

Well, albireo has mentioned how Negi's more wind elemental based, so I guess the lightning magic would do him better than the darkness.

And I think he was just asking which of the rakan's technique was better.

I wonder if Fate is going to have an elemental technique like Negi. It could have a certain importance in next the next fight.
