    Right on cue:

The visions of SE spinning a giant wheel/dartboard and randomly throwing darts at the wheel to decide their fate seems something like they would do.

It's possible, and would fit with a bunch of MercX folks getting perma-banned theory (This is in regards to botting)

I am not sure what is the point or what can be done trying to find out and what to do with this knowledge.

It is very doubtful SE will say anything regarding how it worked as to not "discriminate" (outloud anyway; IF there was such a thing) or how they handle their security.

To stay on topic before this is locked because there is many threads like this already, I am sure there has been some marking in the past but the GM never went up to the said person and said anything (meaning they were marked in the past about something they did that may have been minor without saying to the informat) OR it could be the way the duping was.

Again, no point in this topic. There is no concern for the future because I am sure those who got temp will never pull a risk again and those who didn't do anything saw what can happen if they did.

I was thinking the same thing. As messed up as that is, you totally can not rule that out.

that ring might need to be a bit bigger lol, at least within our server. at least in our server those who got perma had some kinda of involvement with other shady happenings, including GM calls about botting.(r.i.p list for fairy is inaccurate/incomplete)

I used to think the same, but now that I think about it, I used both my main and mule accounts to lead the dupe runs, but somehow they decided to temp ban my mule while perma banning my main.

And all our perma banned members had the best gear in the LS (Aegis, 4/5 Morrigan, 4/5 Usukane, everyone 5/5 Homam, 5/5 Nashira, 6 full AF2 sets, abjs, etc etc) while leaving all our regulars (some that were rewarded with duped items) with just a warning or totally left alone.

    Pretty much this.

It seems the fate of the account came down to who at SE reviewed you and how they felt about the whole situation. Names didnt matter, just seemed like the mood/thought-process decision.

Hell, one person could have been banning every account that fell into their lap while another person was much more lenient and shoveled out tempbans.

Banning based on popularity just doesnt make sense as much as the conspiracy theorist inside me would like to think so.

What you said during the whole deal might have had something to do with it.

If they were reviewing the logs and you said something like, "ok, do this and we get triple the drops.." you would get a perma.

One of the people I know who only got a letter is one of those guys who never talks at all in the game.

I agree. "Ringleaders" seem to have been smacked a bit harder. If he was 4-boxing and just controlling the PTs with main it wouldn't be hard to figure out. It would also be pretty easy to see that all characters were coming from the same IP (or router, at least) and thus figured that it would be wrong to perma the others inside in case they belonged to other people. ...If they really dug hard through the logs, they could have seen if/when the other characters had been logged in with other IPs.

They likely made a very educated assumption of what the plan was and gave them a temp for giving up control with intention to dupe, but since intent is impossible to prove they couldn't perma them. ...But if any of them actually participated in a run instead of being controlled I'd say they got off easy. I remember a testimonial in the original LM-17 thread of someone saying he was temp'd and his live-in GF got a perma... could have been an IP address matter as well after evaluating the "leader" bit on assumption it could be 2-boxing and character borrowing. Not to say being 2-boxed is an ironclad defense or excusable, but I'm sure people can agree that permas there would be unfair because of consent to use for the exploit. Kind of like if you got a letter in the mail with a warning for running a toll caught on camera, but someone else was driving your car at the time.

Agreed and quite likely, along the same lines as the 'leader' bit. Saying that so bluntly in the log would be stupidly easy to make a decision on.

I was actually wondering this. How many people got away with this by saying NOT A FUCKING WORD about it in any form of game chat, and simply using vent.

Guess it just goes to show the smart and prepared always come out on top.

What I'm amused by is the whining of the banning being unfair and unequal.

Where on the EULA does it say SE has to be fair?

This seems the most plausible. Although I did a lot of talking on both accounts, I probably said something on my main that got me perma'd.

Someone told me SE didn't log instanced areas, and I was a fool to believe that.

I was also told that SE doesn't have access to messages sent through flist, but now I'm not so sure. You guys should be careful.

This has a very large assumption that comes into play... That SE actually knows who you are or whatever social role you play in the online community. That they commit resources to keeping tabs of online drama. Which is highly inprobable and not realistic from a business standpoint.

I believe they probably had some human systematic approach. I emphasize human because although it was probably systematic, it was probably done by people and is subject to variations from punishment to punishment in interpretation of the logs.
