Gil from duped sandworm drops were definitely used to fund relics on an HNM shell in my server...were talking 15 relics being done in one year by a single LS.
I kept an excel spreadsheet log for my group over the last month that we did Salvage with the glitch as I was the one in charge of selling it in Rolanmart and splitting. Someone who attended 100% of the runs would have made 1,589,097gil from Alexandrite sales, and I was selling at the high end of the market. We made about that much again per person in the same time selling 35s/25s. Unless you can get a relic at 3mil/month, they'd have a hard time funding it with the glitch in salvage alone.
I get as intensely annoyed by the Alla-tards coming in here spouting all their "elitist" BS as the next guy, but this thread is the most ridiculous shit I've seen in a while and does well to fuel their fire.
No, you are not special. Day said it best: you're just another number. A number that isn't even worth $12.95 to SE. Get over it.
I am of the opinion that this round of bannings was not meant to be as a punishment, but as a warning to everyone. Remember that this exploit was kept secret for well over a year (or at the very least, it wasn't really widely known), and SE took the hammer down. SE was sending a message that the exploits are not to be used, but should be reported. This is a responsibility that ALL players share.
The one thing that I would like to note is that SE takes item duping very seriously. The last mass banning was because of the exploit with the NPCs in Tavnazia. The one before that was when it was possible to duplicate items (and gil) by d/cing when pulling things out of d-box.
One last thing, and I know this will be ignored but I'm gonna say it anyway, is that SE has the right to ban anyone for any reason. If SE wanted to ban all red hair mithras playing Paladin on Tuesdays, they would be well within their rights. This is SE's game, we just play in it.
I'd honestly estimate this glitch cost people doing Salvage on Garuda without it about 100k per month in lost Alexandrite gil. That's assuming it caused a 500gil/piece drop in Alex prices and people accumulated 200 Alexandrite in a month, which would be approximately accurate for my group. (Maybe a little high)
In the short period of time between when they patched this and the Burtgang disappointment, I noticed a ~300gil/Alexandrite increase in price, but the big server-transfer spenders had already grabbed most of their supply by then so it would have been a little higher in the months before. Then, post Burtgang disappointment the price dropped 1.3k/Alexandrite.
Basically, the tripling glitch had an economic impact mostly by making Sandworm drops much more readily available, not that many Monks, Samurais, Paladins, or Dragoons should particularly complain about that. If you look at the Salvage upgrade items, their prices have been relatively constant over the last year, so while you'd expect them to vary with the prevalence of the tripling glitch, they don't.
I dunno, I know I'm preaching to a crowd of people who are going to respond with, "BUT HAXING IS RONG ENJOI UR BAN! LEGIT OR QUITTT!!!!!!" but in truth this was a relatively self-contained exploit whose greatest casualty was the e-peens of those who didn't use it. The community would be much more sympathetic to our plight if not for the faggotry of those who lorded their drops over others (I've heard Niki a lot, but missed that whole set of threads on BG.) I know I did a lot more posting when I got Macha's Pigaches, Deimos Leggings, and Phobos Cuisses in one legit run, completing all three pieces, than I did over all the time I was tripling drops.
No one actually talks like this, but if it helps you come to terms with getting banned more power to you."BUT HAXING IS RONG ENJOI UR BAN! LEGIT OR QUITTT!!!!!!"
It's just a brief summary of the LM-17 thread with some internet-isms thrown in.
Actually, something a lot of people tend to overlook that was brought to my attention is the fact that SE banned not because they don't mind losing 12.95 per ban, but because FFXI is a money-driven game anything that stands to lose them money instead is going to be taken seriously by them.
Say getting the salvage gear you want takes 2+ years without the dupe, 4 months with dupe. Suddenly, SE stands to lose money because people will quit after reaching their goals instead of spending the next SEVEN YEARS striving towards them. They may lose your 12.95 a month anyway, they may as well ban the people who are unscrupulous enough to use one exploit, never mind any other exploits they may come across.
So you see, it's not that SE doesn't care about your 12.95/mo, it's trying to ensure that those who are left standing continue to pay...forever...and ever...
To reiterate: I'm not saying that people (potentially) got banned because of their reputation, but rather their gear/crafts/gil (which frequently lead to a rep). Such a policy requires no forum surfing.
Making a specific example of elite players (or elite-geared players, if you prefer) by perm'ing them (so that it's a high-visibility event to the playerbase), but then turning around and giving lesser punishments to non-elite players, would be f*cked up. It would be no less f*cked up than lettting the elite players off the hook while you throw the book at the plebes... just in the opposite direction.
Waste of money to do skadi head and hands. Skadi feet is okay, I'd rather use Trotters, and legs and body are best. that is, for THF.
Skadi hands are nice on RNG, head is useless for all jobs, full set on any job is baffling, esp on rng when you lose way more than you gain.
Feet are awesome, but not as awesome as your avatar. Btw instead of stealing candy from babies, I served 32 bowls of ice cream at a kindergarden and ate all of them in front of the crying children.
