FFXI on Mac: Working in Parallels 4.0

I'm assuming FFXI running in a virtual machine is highly dependent on which graphics card you have, even though FFXI itself is not.

My X1600 ATI macbook pro can't do Parallels, and can do VMWare decently, but I wouldn't do Dynamis in it.

When I get the new unibody, I expect to have much better results (and will report back but it'll be a month or two)

I'm having trouble installing ffxi on my vm im new to all of this so am i doing something wrong? I'm using a imac 2 GHz processor 2 Gb memory parallels 4.0 so ay help would be appreciated. The installation gets stopped at 100% and says the file isnt there.

Are you installing POL? FF base? An expansion?

Which file isn't there, what's the exact message?

Actually i think i got it figured out but if this doesnt work ill fill you in on all the details.

Anyone ever try using Crossover to play FF in? I know FF runs in Wine and Crossover is basically Wine.

I think Crossover still has some issues with FFXI. It being a fork from the main Wine branch and all.

That being said, FFXI under WINE works just fine. The latest "trick" is to set pol.exe to think it's being run under Vista. For some reason WinXP compatibility doesn't work anymore on the newest (1.1.17). 1.1.18 just got released, I haven't tried it there yet.

I keep getting this error after i hit play when running parallels. the screen goes black and this message pops up.

But i can get onto my windows side and play fine. anyone know how i could fix this?

You did install Parallel Tools right?

Yeah and then i reinstalled them earlier this morning to make sure i did it correctly but ill give it another shot now.

edit: also dont know if it matters but this is what it looks like when i open ffxi config.

It does that when it can't read the video card proper. You do have 3d acceleration enabled under the Video tab for the Virtual Machine's configuration right?

Otherwise I can't really think of anything else.
