It was a formal plan written after the first attempt. During the second and third attempts we succeeded in surviving against him until he used Manafont, and after that the post was edited to contain ideas on how to survive that. We mirrored several 2 hour abilities, and he did not use them again afterwards. But the margin of error is too high, since you don't know if the ability is locked until he has used 20+ more 2 hours. We could not survive Manafont, and thus had no solid results.

After the third attempt, members got tired of sacrificing their XP, and decided they would rather Warp than help perform further tests. Then Christmas happened, as usual.

Edit: MP? I need more coffee...

If we are to assumes torques have some kind of impacts, Capes might as well. Just to toss that into the pot

I'll be damned if this actually doesn't make at least some sense. Doesn't seem to be too far off base from SE's thinking either -- collect hard to get items from bosses to gain "ultimate" pieces of equipment.

Best of luck to anyone testing this.

I really want to try this now. I know we have a few JoLs coming up in the near future, it's just a matter of convincing people to want to do it, and well, I'm not too very convincing.

I hope someone does actually test this, the idea seems to have merit and I'd like to see AV finally legitimately (according to SE...) killed.

I don't believe this for a second. Boobs make everything more convincing. I don't think you are exerting yourself to your fullest potential.

in addition, the author identifies (he thinks) a behavioral change in AV and attempts to link it to a cause by a process of isolation of variables. rather than identifying a behavior change and assuming what causes it, the author attempts to reduce the possible explanations for the behavior. this results in logic along the lines of "drivers who drive while drunk have a higher accident rate than those that do not. therefore, there is probably a link between driving drunk and car accidents." in contrast to the usual AV theory logic of "almost all drivers in car accidents have eaten carrots, therefore carrots must cause car accidents." while he's still presuming to some degree what's causing AV to no longer use call wyvern, he's at least reducing it to 2 players. one that can stop it and one that can't and trying to identify what's different.

Unless you manage to lock him down on the spot and turn him into a Kitten and everyone gets Ninurta Sashes and Aureoles and Mars's Rings.

I've thought about this some recently, and I think unless you bring less than 18 people to JoL, it wouldn't be that hard to modify your JoL ally to serve as an AV testing ally for when he pops. For us we usually have a tank pt, an adds pt of 4-5 blms and a rdm, and 1~1.5 melee pts. If we had adds PT rdm sub /thf, tank pt whm sub /thf, and thf sub /whm or /rdm, you've already got your 3 wynav kiters. Then all you're really missing are a couple pld/nins since JoL tanks usually /rdm.

Then move tanks out of range just as JoL dies so AV doesn't auto-aggro, distribute drops and swap up parties in 3 minutes (or have someone sac once so you have 5-6 min), and engage. The most difficult thing (depending on the general attitude of people) will be convincing them it's worth an hour and 40min and a few thousand exp to try it. Unless that's exactly what you meant when you were talking about the difficulty in organizing an impromptu run.

what's going to really screw up testing is if, using the torques only increases the chance of sealing his 2 hour, and when people don't lock it, we're going to see a lot of "well the theory is debunked", when in fact it might not be

And suddenly, I'm interested. Assuming this does work, need to do what that other guy suggested see if the Torque is the limiting factor and not the job. So I can go GS wielding drk :D

Im insulted that the accusation of us using AV to raise forum donations would be even joked about.

We ran over bandwith already, before this thread came to be, now its nasty out of pocket overage fees.

This Torque theory stems from a Dragoon mirroring Call Wyvern without a Love Torque equipped not sealing the ability. If you think about it, it makes no sense for Call Wyvern to even be sealable. By eliminating that single ability, you're stopping it from using Mijin Gakure, Astral Flow, and Familiar, which is unreasonable. Also take into account the fact that Absolute Virtue is a Dragoon in the first place, so that is actually its real 2 hour ability. I think the more reasonable explanation of that situation is that the Dragoon with Love Torque equipped did not seal Call Wyvern the first time, but Absolute Virtue just didn't use it. As I said before, the margin of error to prove that an ability is sealed would take several uses of every other 2 hour, otherwise it could just be coincidence.

One thing I notice while re-watching SE's AV fight is that they used their two hours when AV USES two hour and not when AV READIES two hour. And what's strange is that when AV READIES chainspell, he immediately USES chainspell.

My guess is that he can USE two hours every two hours but he can READY two hours as much as he likes and READY two hours is the only two hour you can lock.

Anyway just a reminder for any LS that is going to try using corresponding torque and 2hour. Don't burn you two hours when he READIES two hours.

Would have to double-check the animations, but like most (but not all) things in the game I'm pretty sure the chat log message for 2Hs comes when the animation completes. So it's very possible they popped 2Hs when he 'readied' and it only displayed in the log at the point where he had also 'used'. If this even matters for the theory being discussed.

The ability being readied just gave the people warning time to think, "Hey, this isn't my ability I need to mirror, so I won't waste my 2 hour and have to reset it in our Square-Enix god-mode." Thererfore only 1 Red Mage and 2 others who apparently weren't paying attention used their respective 2 hours.
