Steelshells, stick with the DC for starters. They're actually very easy as WAR/DNC.

I was skilling up Scythe (so boring...) there and had no problems at all. Gear was:

    Scythe | Pole Grip | N/A | Bibiki Seashell
    Walahra | Evasion | Ethereal | Brutal
    Askar | Dusk | Jelly | Rajas
    Boxers | Swift | AF2 | Aurum

Signet helps a lot, as it allows you to rest in between fights if you want to AFK or something without losing TP, and the other bonuses. If you're trying to cap everything as I am, I wish you the best of luck. I hope one day I'll finally finish it off.

I find it easier to punch an EP mob to get healed up than to actually take a knee, even though it's super fast with signet.

Really, can't stress that enough, get Signet, keep a staff on you if need be, never forget Signet.

also bring smooth healer npc to help with healing, pro/shell, haste.

took about every weapon to cap on WAR, that wasn't already capped on another job. It was pretty fun, usually get a few friends to come along if they see me soloing, so leech some skill ups.

I kinda wish the signet bonus didn't give evasion, and just gave more defense... it sucks for skilling guard.

I've been working on skilling up on DRK recently, kind of a shame I don't get nearly as many defensive bonuses :/ Are there any alternatives I would need to consider when doing that, or is the logic pretty much the same? I remember a Steelshell killed me the first time I tried it while skilling either GAxe or GSword. Since then I've just been doing my other melee skills to 200 on Robber Crabs downstairs, but I'm quickly getting close to finishing that up (sword is 160 or so). Should I consider /nin instead of /dnc for Dark Knight if I want to solo on Steelshells?

Signet only gives Eva/Def on whatever you're engaged on.

War/Dnc is actually buff enough with Retaliation up that you can kill multiple mobs, I found out (the hard way) that 6 of the Ep mandies is 1 too many because they whittled me down just a little too quickly with headbutt/sleep/poison/general DoT, but 5 crabs or 5 mandies is just a matter of spamming Waltz II/keeping Samba II/Defender/Retaliation up.

I have a /samba II, /wait 1, /retaliation, /wait 1, /defender macro, and Samba lasts half as long as D/R so you get into a rhythm, hit hit hit hit, waltz, hit hit hit hit, waltz, hit hit hit hit, samba, hit hit, waltz, hit hit hit hit, waltz, hit hit hit hit, waltz, hit hit hit hit, samba/Def/Ret, hit hit, waltz.

Drk loses Def/Ret, but gains Drain/II/Spikes, Stun, Weapon Bash, BW as a last resort (hah! last resort!), Abs TP, and you can toss in Aspir Samba's to get your MP back up if needed.

Not really. Just means you grab another mob until you have enough to where you can barely keep yourself alive with /dnc. And for some reason if you have to rest, it doesn't take an hour to fill ur hp up.

I have capped guard, trust me. When signet wore it was a fucking pain enough for me to dwarp to go get it.

    What did you level on?

I find Mouriche's to be pretty slow at 202 skill... I tried Pucks (not Puks - the black mandies in Den of Rancor) and got faceraped in about ten seconds...

Btw, I'm pretty sure signet works up to T mobs, or is it just below T?

I could swear it was T as well, because I feel pretty buff when it comes to T's.

After Mouriche's I went to valley of sorrows on raptors/birds for a bit, don't remember exactly how long I stayed there, but it treated me well. After that I went back to the tree I believe and did the black puks there. Then I did Puks for a bit, but these would require a lot of downtime. I hired a rdm a few times at 20k/hr and that worked well. I ended up capping off on mnk/dnc solo on sea puks at MJSP

How did MJSP work out for you?

I'm randomly ganking goblins, wyverns and manticores in Onzozo right now, just because I can't think of anything better to do until Dynamis. It's actually decent XP, sadly.

I just did MJSP like the last 3-5 skills on sea puks and it actually only took a couple hours. Treated me very well.

    Sea mobs.

I remember my bud Xavian telling me that he swore sea mobs gave more skillups or something.

I noticed myself that I always seem to get a parrying skillup every time I'm out there tanking a shark or something.

I must be doing it wrong then... the only time guard has ever been nice to me was when it was sub-150... I would pull a Yagudo MNK in Castle Zvahl Keep, train it across the zone, and engage a Quadav that I knew wouldn't move out of melee sight... I'd afk til Counter killed the MNK, then repeat. I think it took like 25 hours of this to gain 20 levels...

w/o help, will be difficult to just straight up bloodtank a shark. I used to farm organs on mnk/dnc (to save gil on shihei) and it was a struggle to stay alive with full eva gear and decent evasion procs.

Edit: Skill ups would be very random to me. Sometimes I would go 2-3 hours w/o see'ing a .1, but then I'd do like 2 full lvs in under an hour.

Yeah, I can just barely solo a T shark on War/Dnc, they're rough with the virus moves and shit.

Just remember him telling me that mobs out there seemed to give him skillups like mad, and he wound up capping parry out there soloing shit.

Course, parry procs before shadows, which made it easier.

You could see if anyone needs to farm organs and get them to help heal you while you kill/bloodtank shit Mnk/Dnc.

VoS was working out pretty well just now... til I decided to try two Perytons and a Raptor...

I would have barely survived if they didn't all WS and/or crit as I got three different IMs locking up my screen.

Went back later today on WAR/DNC, brought tacos and signet and nothing else. Had near 300tp and full hp after DC EM mobs, T was a bit rough so i wont do those seeing as no signet effect.

But yeah, signet and tacos made a world of difference. Ive never really had a chance to 'tank' on war, and with retaliation and a 1h weapon it turned my fidill into a ridill >.x
