Zahyolm Remnants 4F + boss strat?

My Salvage static is going on 2 runs of ZR tonight and we need some 15's from 4f frog to complete some pieces. Most in the group seem sure that if you go after this frog the rest of the run is basically a waste.

I think we can still pull of boss after getting this frog dead, can someone give me some input on this, and how they usually go about it?

I only like doing this zone with 6, so this may not apply to everyone.

It helps to get good gear in the opening chest, but regardless, get the basic stuff that you need from the first floor by killing only the cell mobs in the first room of each wing, and possibly anything else that's vital that you didn't get to drop. Port up (we usually port up northeast).

2f - clear the room, open the door, and try to farm at least 1 Wyvern from the other wings that drops a castellanus and stratus cell. Don't worry about Radiatus. This isn't completely necessary, but by having those cells, I get another 12% on my haste, and these mobs drop cells in pairs, and may also drop some more body pieces if you need it. This may take some time, so make sure you're perfectly aware of the time.

3f - we have our BRD troubadour march and minuet and he then runs to the north portal immediately after. Be aware of how much time you have, so the BRD can port up @ ~29 minutes to be safe. The rest of the group heads west and farms as many stat cells as they can. Having HP unlocked for everyone is almost a necessity, as you need to make sure everyone survives a discoid. It's also a nice chance to farm stat cells and MP cells. You're probably not going to have much time to farm this floor, so hopefully you get lucky on the drops.

4f - farm the mamool ja on the west side of the map if you're still in need of HP or MP. Hopefully by this point, your group's HP and MP is fully unlocked. If not.. good luck :D

After you kill the frog, you should have quite a bit of time left, but that doesn't mean you should ease up.

The HP cells are going to be a problem and you really need them for that boss. You can get Max HP, STR, VIT, AGI, CHR, INT, DEX, MND from the 4th floor after you kill the frog.

You'd really want another set of stats for your other monk. The best bet would probably to try to Invisible past the first room on the third floor going west and try to pull some Mamool's very fast from both sides while someone runs to the teleporter.

Either way, I see you getting to the boss almost naked, though you should be able to farm the inner rooms and stats. You might want to consider popping the socket NM to duplicate whatever you are short on after you farm the first room.

You really need to get lucky on those HP cell drops. You could probably get by with the mages just putting up stoneskin, but your thf won't be able to eat that and you need him to be able to disperse Discord.

There are no cells in the north area of the 5th floor.

If you pull it off, you should definitely post.

You don't really need to get lucky on HP since you can farm more on 4F and keep reloading it until you have enough.

I believe that the first time you port up to 4F a Savant drops HP, then next time a Sophist, and then back to the Savant again. But I've only done this once, so it may be more random. In any case, you don't need to kill the Mimickers at all if you just want HP.

There's only 1 HP on 4F. So you need to score a couple off of 3F and preferebly 5. It drops off the Savant or the Sophist, depending which set loads.

There's only 1 HP on 4F, but you can keep reloading 4F until you have all the HP you need. Just pull the wrong rampart and port up.

You can throw in 5F and 6F too. Doing 4F never means the entire run is a waste. It might take some practice, but it is really quite easy to pull off when you're used to it.

If you go with a similar setup to my group, the party should be something like:
    MNK
    MNK
    THF
    RDM
    BRD
    WHM

Depending on what cells are in the initial chest, you might have to make decisions based on that. The best possible situation is if 2 ability pops in the initial chest instead of 2 magic, as that means you can dupe something else. If 2 magic pops, you will generally want to dupe ability, as everyone having ability benefits your groups kill speed etc. Which is why having 2 ability from initial chest is better then 2 magic, as the THF don't really need magic either way.

On 1F, only clear the 4 inner rooms. This will grant you:

    5 or 6 magic
    5 or 6 ability
    6 weapon
    5 SJ

Generally when I give out cells, the 3 unlocked people are MNK MNK and RDM. If you have 6 people, though, only one will have to skip out on a cell. I prefer to give everyone but the THF SJ, as SJ + ability really helps the WHM out if he have SCH sub, but again, depends on your group.

On second floor, port down in the NE room. Clear everything out, and assuming you get enough ranged and rings, dupe the ability if you didn't get 2 from initial chest. OTherwise dupe whatever you feel you need. Have the WHM and a MNK duo the frog while the remaining proceed to the SE room. Sneak past the lizards and head to the group of 3 to the left, as 2 of those are guaranteed to drop cells. Do the same with the rest of the rooms. Left side is always guaranteed to drop 2 cells.

When you reach the third room, the WHM and MNK are generally done duoing the dupe frog, so those two head to the NW room and start killing those. Once the remaining are doen with the SW room, head to the NW room and start killing Jakko. At this point 3-4 people should be fully unlocked, so warp down.

At third floor you should be roughly 22-23 min inside the zone, so invis past the first room and head west. In the second room, have 1 MNK hundred fist, and in the second room have the second MNK hundred fist. This should, assumng your luck don't suck, provide you with at least 3-4 MP cells (for MNK, MNK, RDM and WHM), and if you managed to clear both of the end rooms, you should have one of each cell as well. While you're clearing these, have the BRD start heading to the northern teleporter.

At 4F, if you didn't manage to get all the cells you need in time, feel free to redo it as many times as you need.

The rest of the run can be done as usual.

1F shouldn't take much longer then 8-9 minutes, and 2F not much longer then 13-15 minutes. If you can't be off each floor within those time frames and achieve the outlined goals above within said time, then simply doing 4F + boss, or even only 4F would be better.

Great, thanks so much for your responses, I'll see if I can convince people in the group to try some of these strats out.

what uzor said. keep in mind that you only need three MP ( 4 would be better), since you can reload the 4th floor three time and drops are guarranted there. So basically, 4+5 should be relatively easy for new groups even, since you wouldnt kill the dup frog then ( saving 5 minutes).

Fucking Jesus Christ, I never thought of that. This is the single most awesome thing I've had pointed out to me in Salvage.

Well that changes everything. Farm the stats off the first floor, try to get a couple of what you need on the 2nd floor, try to farm a couple max mps on the third floor and port up.

Repeat 4th floor as needed. lol. Like Uzor said you can throw in other frogs too. If you pop Jakko and kill the 2F frog, you should be able to kill the 5F north Frog and get 6F to pop. That would probably be easier than boss cause you could go without the equipment easier.

This would require you to have the Silver Sea card for Jakko. I'd suggest trying to do 6F before trying to do boss. Or you could basically decide what to do by how much time you have remaining when trying to get equipment/maxmp.

Usually on 6F, is your priority is the boss and not the frog, you can clear 6F and decide by then if you have time for the frog or not.

just came off f4+boss 6 man, pt was mnk mnk thf rdm whm brd
floor 1 9 min zone up, getting sj's ability and magic for tanks brd and rdm
floor 2 12 minutes getting some armor for the mnks, (got pretty lucky on drops had both mnk almost unlocked)
floor 3 8 min sent thf to zone while brd kept mobs slept as we just moved down every mamool possible for hp, ended up with 2 hp short
floor 4 took down the middle mamools for hp, didnt get it, so had to rezone 2x
floor 5 thf pd+flee us to zone
floor 6 we cleared as usuall whm/smn carby pulled chariot both mnk 2hr on it ( our brd afk so died on pop ended up doing this part brdless) thf constantly pulled never rested
floor 7 boss we had about 16 minutes left, we had a tough one kept turning, so after 1st 2 discoids thf went down, around 7% rdm went down but we named to pull it off with 2 minutes left (brd had no 2hr for boss)

was a very exciting run and finished 2 pieces for well deserving members

Honestly, that's amazing. We really don't need much from boss, so I'll probably attempt this with 6f, instead but it's nice to know that boss is a doable goal. Bhaflau Remnants needs to cough up some 35s before we'll need some 15s from here. I guess that's the upside the ramparts never want to spawn any NMs. I got lucky on my usu feet. I got the 15 off a 1F frog before LAC finally dropped my 25. We didn't have a card for Jakko and wanted to do 5+6. Lucky me on the 15.
