    Arizona COX Cable users

you must contact cox cable about not being able to log into the game. the problem is on their end not PoL. COX is notorious for have horrible customer service so they will not fix it unless people call. I have been unable to log into the game for about 8 hours and when I called cox they said only me and 1 other person had called in.

Here is the IP Address you need to report with the packet error: 72.214.144.65

to run a trace you need to open run (windows key and R for vista users) and type tracert 202.67.56.134 (thats is PoL's IP address)

could you explain this a little better? i ran the tracert and timed out. but me and my friends' are confused by what you want us to do to test it. And lol, if only one other person called it was my friend, but i HIGHLY doubt only one person called.

I'm having the same problem with Cox in Nevada. Called them, basically recited OP comment and told me that everything is fine on their end. Still cant log on and they told me theres nothing they can do. >.>

Well the answer I got from their rep was that Cox does not offer support for video games. lol? Guess i'll wait until tomorrow, hopefully enough people will call in and get Cox to fix their shit. /sigh

this is an issue with one of COX's routers kicking back packets to the PoL server. Basicly what that means is you can surf the web fine but you can not connect to PoL without hitting retry over and over. I called SE and spoke with their tech support department and they filled me in. COX will not fix this unless enough people call in. When you get the * instead of a number followed by ms that means the packet got lost. Whatever IP is next to that is where the problem is between you and PoL.

the trace is basicly mapping out your connection to PoL across the internet. Think of it as a road. Everyone takes a different road to get to PoL based on their ISP. COX has an issue and can't see it because everything else is working fine. It may be something as simple as a closed port on the router that PoL is sending packets to.

Edit: You have to explain to them your not asking for support to get the game working. You need them to correct the connection issue between them and PoL. Tell them that PoL's packets are not reaching your computer and are being kicked back to PoL inside the cox network. You can even offer them PoL's IP in my first post so they can try tracing the problem.

hmm, maybe but i doubt they got that moving 2 days after they anounced it. you remember seeing their ondemand adds 2 years ago right? that service has only been available for like 4 months.

Edit: Does anyone know of a proxy server that will work with FFXI? I have been looking for one as a get around till this is fixed but once PoL loads FFXI it all stops working.

This is really odd, because I am having the exact same problems, except my "ISP" is the University of Hawaii Resnet. Whatever is going on it's not limited to Cox, and the fact it's happening all the way out here means it might be more widespread.

all i know is when i called SE i gave them my ID and the first thing the guy asked is if my ISP was COX. After that he told me why i was calling. so SE knows and COX is in denial.

did you run the trace? it may be an external routing service that COX uses. I have no idea how their network is set up. Run the trace and see if the IP address I posted is the same as the one you get * on.

I ran the tracert and was getting the * at 70.169.73.37

However, as I was on hold w/ Cox, I continued to run it, and after the first 2, I didn't encounter further problems in the tracert. Once I was able to get logged in, I was actually able to start moving between zones as well. The Cox representative was nice, but said I'd have to write a letter to their regional HQ to have it addressed.../joy.

Anyone else see improvement in play in the last 30 mins or so?

Yes, it is not the same IP adress that you have bolded in the post above.

I actually DC'd down to 0% probably for the first time in 2 years today. Managed to go back up to 100%, but not in 2 years have I DC'd from FFXI down to 0%, and still be able to search the web as I am DCing.

was that the 3rd or 4th line? do you have a router on your network? on the tracert it is very erratic. has been like that all day. thats why you can keep hitting retry and get logged in. if you run it a few more times you may get the error. As far as me logging in...

I can get to the character select screen sort of easily but after i select i get the...
