    I was wondering this myself for a while and from experience it seems that...

    --SAM seems to be the most useful for just "DD" in about any type of fight.
    --DRK looks more versatile for me with its use of more recent spell additions and for zerg (kc/merc/etc).
    --WAR is a little harder for me to say but it reminds me of SAM in several ways
    --DRG is also versatile like DRK but more so in the sense of what they can do "solo" wise.


    The main reason I didn't level SAM myself is because it is limited outside of a party/alliance in what it can do. DRG is very versatile both in and outside while DRK has more choices in a party/alliance (can't say much about outside right now).

    For you, I'd say DRG just because, again, versatility and does its job well as DD anyway (great merit job also anyway).

    if you think thf sucks on HNM dmg wise give them a brd and you'll see the numbers ftw, otherwise dont talk about it :<

    WAR MNK SAM DRK all 4 good stuff /SAM, with WAR and SAM being having most potential for all kinds of stuff really, DRK is close also but lack the tanking ability compared to the WAR & SAM imo.
    MNK and DRK my personal favorite HARD DD jobs though, with NIN being my favorite over those both and can smack stuff up really well also if well geared and competent.
    Just feels MNK and NIN lacks when it comes to HNM and above average "tougher" NM / HNMs etc.

    you can still do that with a drg/rng burn. or at 59~61 pretty much any dd works.

    Are you talking single WS damage or total damage at the end of the fight? THF does great single WS at a time, but compared to the TP build of a two-handed job and then WS spam, (WAR/SAM, SAM/XXX, or DRK/XXX with Absorb-TP), they just are not able to throw out as much total damage at the end. And then adding in the 3-4 hits of 10-15 (variable depending on mob) versus a nice solid 100+ hit really changes things. I know THF can do damage, but compared to the two-handers, the single-handled/dual wielders just get smoked. (This is excluding stupidly geared THFs with like Mandau's and 1,000,000,000g in gear)

    was talking ws wise XP and thf can do good dmg on mobs like faf/nid/cerb melee wise if they dont suck.

    I don't know what can DRG outside alliance, but for SAM. I can always meditate and Shikikoyo'ing every melee at 5min timer.

    I've done drg, sam, and mnk, personally for meriting or limbus/dynamis such I find drg/sam to be bit stronger than sam/war normally because of angon and drakesbane, it's a very strong ws when geared for. But sam has advantage if you have to you use other subs[ie /thf or /nin] since on /nin or /thf I find to drg lacking compared to sam. Though gap mainly on /thf, since drg/thf still does meh compared to any other job /thf really. Also drg/mage's solo advantage is amazing when used correctly and it's really fun.

    also I know some will disagree but overall if going to be only melee, I'd have to say sam, while drg, war, or drk can be very good, and I'd recmmend againist mnk since w/o the 2 hander benefits it's much harder to do well with "AH" gear .

    Sorry, by outside alliance/party I meant solo basically with DRG/mage ;;
